tampines seems to be a whole city by itself. i spent some time there yesterday and found that it’s a really happening place. there is a cluster of shopping malls with everything you could possibly need. restaurants, boutiques, movie theaters, et cetera. i doubt the people living in that area get out much; their neighborhood has everything they need already.
i had dinner with my colleague xanthe. we wanted to go to din tai fung but there was a whole queue waiting so we ended up at ajisen ramen instead. the chicken teriyaki ramen was highly recommended by the house so we each ordered a bowl. it turned out to be a horrid oily mess, with skimpy pieces of chicken and what appears to be fried noodles that you can get from canteens at 60 cents. yucks!

the side dishes fared better though. the little yellow fried fish were crunchy and savory and looked cute! the salmon fish cakes were quite tasty with the chili sauce, albeit being a little stiff.

that would definitely be my first and last time visiting any ajisen ramen outlet. if their highly recommended dish is of this shoddy quality, i shudder to even sample their other ramen dishes.
shopping in tampines was pretty fun. i ended up with an osim massager and a whole bunch of accessories, earning myself a couple of VIP cards from metro and mini bits (or mini toons). one of the things i got included this. can you tell what it is?

it’s a hairband! doesn’t it match my fairy tale layout? before we spotted this we were trying on various necklaces and pendants. so when we saw it we both thought it’s a choker of some sort. and xanthe made me try it on my neck! we were both discussing how weird it looked until the friendly salesgirl chimed in, telling us it’s actually a hairband. how embarrassing!
so anyway i bought it and xanthe was extremely amused everytime i wear it on my hair. she wouldn’t stop laughing! but it’s times like this that i’m really gonna miss when i leave celestica. all those endless jokes and laughter.

we must keep in touch okay, babe?

heys~ passed by your journal and is rather fascinated by it…
Hmm, ajisen ramen is actually a very good ramen restaurant. Thier soupy ramens, thats it. Their soup bases are superb, almost different kind of ramen gives different soup bases. I reccomend you the “spicy chasu ramen” and volcano ramen (you seem to be the kind that likes spicy stuff). The paigu ramen is also ichiban!
You shoudn’t have tried their reccomendations. *laughs* =) View all comments by Shinx
