Baby’s First Shower

i’m exhausted!

can’t get much sleep at all because i have to watch the baby constantly. and it gets so difficult to feed him. he cries and struggles nonstop during feeding and it’s hard getting him to actually drink the milk. the dropper is too big for his tiny mouth and his mouth rarely opens so most of the milk ends up dripping away. i wonder how much milk he actually drinks.

i can’t really go out anymore. luckily these few days i don’t have lessons. but come monday and tuesday, i would have to be in school for the whole day. i don’t know how i can take care of the kitty then. and no one else in the family even dares to touch him because he’s too tiny and too fragile. mom is trying to get me to find someone to adopt him but i love him to bits. besides i don’t exactly trust other people to take care of him. taking care of a small kitten is one thing. taking care of a baby kitten with eyes that aren’t even open is a different thing altogether.

i won’t even consider sending him to the SPCA. my mom called them up, and they said they aren’t optimistic the baby would survive, especially at this age. i’m guessing if i brought him there, they would kill him instead of trying to save him. i’m not even sure if he could survive under my care. but i’m just doing the best i can, one step at a time, hoping he would open his eyes soon. hopefully then, i would be the first person he sees.

didn’t sleep much today. the last thing i did before falling asleep was to feed the kitty. the first thing i did when i woke up was to feed the kitty too. then i accompanied my mom for her medical checkup. we had lunch at chinatown after that and then my brother called, saying kitty had pooped all over the litter box and it smelled really bad.

so i rushed back home and cleaned him up, fed him warm milk, and gave him his first warm shower! he cries a lot, but still can’t really meow yet. the sounds he make are sharp cries that hardly sound like meows.

basically, i have to feed him all the time, and help him poop and pee after every meal. i have to replenish the two water bottles with hot water all the time to make sure his litter box is warm. i have to make sure his towels are clean and dry. and now it looks like i have to bathe him too, and dry him up after that. but my reward is seeing him sleeping soundly, curled up in the foetal position. very sweet and adorable!

i think for the first time, i finally understand what unconditional love is. he’s just a tiny little thing that i brought home a couple nights ago, barely 15 centimeters long and has done nothing but cry and poop and pee all day. and already, i love him to bits! i worry about him constantly and lose sleep over him all the time. when he cries, i cry too. if i ever had my own baby, i would probably die worrying for him or her.
