we were at the vivocity outlet of bakerzin the other day. the pink and red decor and transparent chairs gave the place a really inviting and candy sweet look. although there are a number of bakerzin cafés sprinkled over the island, it’s actually my first visit to any. boy, have i been missing out!
instead of going for the desserts that bakerzin is better known for, we each had a pasta. well, i love pasta! in fact, i love it so much it is the only thing that i cook. when it comes to pasta, i almost always go for a crayfish pasta. but since it wasn’t on the bakerzin menu, i settled for the next best option — seafood pasta. recalling my very poor dining experience at the mussel guys, i conveyed to the chef that i wouldn’t want my pasta sauce too watered down.

wow, it was swimmingly good! check out the size of those tiger prawns! the pasta came with so much seafood that i had no doubt i was getting my money’s worth! besides those tiger prawns, there were some very fresh mussels, squid and clams. the spaghetti was al dente and the tomato with white wine sauce was made just the way i like it — tangy, rich and certainly not watered down. i really enjoyed every bite!

i’m not usually a fan of pasta in cream sauce. i tend to get sick of the rich creamy taste after a while. but damn, the linguini in mushroom cream sauce was marvellous! i never knew bakerzin served any decent food other than desserts!
i do have one complaint though — they do not serve water other than the kind that comes at a dollar a bottle. boy, does it irk me when they do that.

had me a mocha then. i was pleasantly surprised to find that the barista had done some form of coffee art with it. there was a pretty little heart/leaf shape in the mocha. so it didn’t taste that good. but they get brownie points for the effort. most cafés (in singapore anyway) don’t even bother!
speaking of coffee art, check out this video:
does anyone know of any barista who’s really good at this? i’m dying to see it live!

the seafood pasta has been around for some time. tried it a few times and always love it. :-)
its not the only place where sells $1 water. quite a few places do that now. sigh.. View all comments by Keropok Man
It’s very annoying! What is with them? Having to pay for drinking water at a restaurant is simply ridiculous! View all comments by Veron
are the prawns deshelled? View all comments by xxoos
Yup except for the tails of course. View all comments by Veron
Hmmm, the head looks intact, so that’s something I won’t touch! I don’t like to eat prawns if I have to work for it :) I’m interested in the mocha though; does it taste more like chocolate, or more like coffee? View all comments by pkchukiss
Funny! I don’t even remember getting rid of the heads until you mentioned it! (My, that was one gruesome statement!) Good question about the mocha. It wasn’t particularly memorable except for the little art thing they did. I think it tasted more of chocolate than coffee. View all comments by Veron
i always love their food…almost everything in their menu is good. The seafood pasta used to be served on banana leaves which enriched the taste in a sort of “smoky” way…y’know, how otah feels like in banana leaves. But for some reason or other, they stopped doing that. Their warm choc cake is to die for…I never fail order that when I’m there; its like tradition for me! Their curry chicken, otah bruschetta, ham, bacon & mushroom flaky pizza are my favs too…do try them! Another special thing was that they used to serve this dessert - strawberry cheesecake which was literally strawberry sauce with bits of berries, cheese and cake in a martini-like glass. It was really innovative! Wonder how come they stopped that too! View all comments by Joyz
You should be a food critic/reviewer! Your vivid description has got me salivating already! View all comments by Veron
Believe me, its that good…I recommend going with a group of friends, that way you can try as much as you can on the menu. And don’t forget to order the warm chocolate cake…it takes 15 minutes to get ready so order first then tell them to serve it last. The hot chocolate lava oozes out of the cake which is to be eaten with the vanila ice cream on top, that just compliments each other in favour and temperature. That feeling is pure bliss! Warm chocolate cake is not their best seller for nothing! View all comments by Joyz
Warm chocolate cake is almost always good. And now I really must try Bakerzin’s! Oh, just so you know, it’d be your fault if I started packing on extra pounds from loving Bakerzin :) You should be their spokesperson! View all comments by Veron
Haha, just to clarify…I do not own Bakerzin or have any share in it! View all comments by Joyz
Ya can go Pasta cafe at taka. Its at B1 i think. Just opp MOS buger. The Slipper lobster pasta tastes really great. Almost the best pasta i have tried. For the drinks ya can try the fruits blend. View all comments by lucifer81

You have an eye for these things! That does really resemble an onion, especially with all the different “layers”. View all comments by Veron
