Microsoft is going to "compete" with Flash?

'Scuse me while I kiss the sky!

Like Zune is going to "compete" with iPod.

Flash (player) is THE MOST widely distributed piece of software in the known universe and in history. Now MS, who hasn't been able to do much right since the turn of the millennium (Xbox is still like $2B in the RED) is going to go head-to-head with ... Flash? Oh boy, indeed.

The only explanation I can think of is:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=KMU0tzLwhbE

Princess, tell us why you can't get enough of Silverlight? I mean, like features, etc. Maybe I should be using it?

Oh!: I found something to like. The package design of Expression Web is REALLY nice. MS actually has been doing nice packages for a few years now.

search: iPod Amnesty Bin (corporate "culture")
note: The Zune Amnesty Bin 'IS' the store shelves.

Like I said, I code all my HTML and CSS by hand (what you see in this layout) on Notepad, or more recently, Notepad++. This way I get maximum control over the layout of each page. Only when I'm in a hurry to get the work done would I use some HTML editor like GoLive.

@veron Haha, yeah I can understand it. Most designers / developers (myself included) would want clean, neat XHTML (none of that extra proprietary clutter).

@jayson As for in-place video editing, Flash / Flex can already do that (check out www.jumpcut.com). Being a developer that coded a fair bit on MS technologies, I am a little skeptical if MS can build an open, vibrant ecosystem around Silverlight. Reminds me of the PHP/Rails versus .NET battlefront.

Hey Veron,

thanks for allowing me to tag along ...
had a blast at premix today.
informative presentations, engaging discussions, nice friendly MS peeps.

And I've to say, Silverlight has indeed made video editing so cool,
on-the-fly video clip manipulation within the browser? wow.
Oh yah, and enjoy the cute cube book about cats!
Meow~

The only reason why I hand-code from scratch is because I'm a control freak! Hmm... a comparison between Expression Web and DreamWeaver? That would be a toughie considering I don't use the latter!

Hey,

Wow, nice, so you're a hardcore hand coder. *bows*

Look forward to your next blog entry about what you think about Expression Web versus Dreamweaver. And perhaps how Expression Design compares to Adobe Illustrator.
