as part two of our dessert-tasting excursion (see part one here), we paid a visit to icekimo, an ice creamery-cum-café just off upper thomson road. decked out entirely in hues of girlish pink and white, this cute little place provides a bright and cheery spark to the otherwise lackluster sin ming centre where it is tucked in.
one cannot help but feel young in this cheery café! cute cartoon characters of — what else — eskimos, penguins and seals eating ice cream can be seen adorning the walls and glass windows.

ice cream lovers can indulge in their favorite dessert in these sweet little white armchairs! how totally adorable!

all ice cream here is freshly made in-house with lots of love, reduced fats and sugar. actual fruits are used to make the fruit flavors, which includes mango, durian, chempedak (i admit i haven’t heard of this one), strawberry, et cetera.

besides eating out of cups, customers can have a choice of crunchy waffle cones or waffle bowls! of course, there are also a range of toppings to choose from. my favorite is the colorful rainbow sprinkles!

one good thing about icekimo is that you can find unconventional ice cream flavors here, with new ones being introduced every month. here, we have the blueberry cheesecake! yum!

ever licked bandung (milk flavored with rosewater) or teh tarik (”pulled” tea) before? yeah, i said “licked”! well, i did it at icekimo! some of their most unusual ice cream flavors include these, plus nutella with hazelnut, horlicks with malteses and dino milo! ahhh! tell me, how can anyone resist? ever a fan of the popular milo dinosaur drink, i fell in love with the dino milo ice cream the instant i had it on my tongue!
look! they even have meatball pasta! or is that something else? look again!

well, this is yet another of icekimo’s thoughtful creations! the meatballs are ferrero rochers! the tomato sauce is strawberry syrup! and get this — the spaghetti is made entirely out of vanilla ice cream! didn’t see that coming did ya? it was the single most sinful pasta dish i’ve ever had!

obviously i’m not the only one who’s a fan of icekimo’s ice cream. check out all these colorful notes left behind by customers! a couple of these had really cute messages.
the next time you’re in the area, be sure to drop by for some ice cream dessert at icekimo! i’m sure you would leave it feeling cheery for the rest of the day.

OMG… the Spaghetti Ice Cream looks so good! It really looks like real spaghetti. Nice one!
Yeah, looks like a nice place to bring a lady for after-dinner chit chat / dessert. ;) View all comments by Miccheng
The Spaghetti Ice Cream is a wonder!
This place looks cute and youthful — great for young people to hang out. But because the setting is so casual, it isn’t exactly the kind of place you would want to bring a date. Just my two cents. View all comments by Veron
Whoa! You Singaporeans really seem to eat well. Love the spaghetti ice cream. Looks like it might be too sweet though. Like, that ‘cheap’ sweet.
Veron, you’ve got to eat in Japan! View all comments by Michael Baxter
Your first comment finally! I am honored!
Alright, I am coming to Japan! 6 weeks to go! View all comments by Veron
I thought Eskimos eat Seals’ blubber. Oh well…. probably watched too much Discovery Channel. View all comments by Brennan
Seals’ BLUBBER? Yuck! That just spoiled my appetite for the entire day! Thanks! View all comments by Veron
Had wanted to try this but it’s pretty far for me haha… View all comments by Jacelyn
Hey babe, if you like ice-cream with new and interesting flavours, try Tom’s Palette at Beach Road. Also quite yummy. =)
It’s been years since I’ve seen you! Maybe we can meet up for lunch one day… oh ya, come see my play ok? Email me if you’re interested! View all comments by Remy
I think Island Creamery is nice too! :) View all comments by Jacelyn
Cool recommendations! I pass by Island Creamery at Serene Centre on my way home from work. One of these days I would go check it out. View all comments by Veron
slurp! i suddenly have a craving for ice cream =P View all comments by merv
hmm… actually spaghetti ice cream is quite a common children ice cream serving in europe. the “meatballs” is creative though… can try it one day… View all comments by xxoos
O_o vanilla pasta. Looks quite like the real thing to me.
Here in Canada, the term ‘eskimo’ is less used as it is considered a pejorative. To be politically correct, we use the Inuit people. Then again, there is a football team named the Eskimos… >_< View all comments by Zelnox
Honored? As I am!
The design (logo, etc) is super cute. Seems kind of contempo Japanese in feel. Do Singaporeans take design cues from abroad?
Not the kind of place to go on a date? I’d let you take me there!

xxoos: Really? I have never heard of spaghetti ice cream before this. Those kids sure have it good!
Zelnox: Interesting. Over here, everyone learns the term “eskimo” in primary school (elementary level). Eskimos live in igloos. Red Indians live in teepees. Stuff like that.
Michael Baxter: Actually, there are many things in Singapore that have drawn influence from the Japanese. Kawaii-looking products and knick-knacks are all the rage. Kids these days attempt to follow the Japanese fashion, be it in clothes or hairstyles. Cosplay is catching on too. And it’s not just fashion. Food. Malls. Also Japanese drama series, they have been showing on our TV channels for years. View all comments by Veron
Ah! As expected, the Japanese are taking over Singapore too! LOL! I’ve really got to come over there and try some of that ice cream! Most excellent brand! Do you know that Japanese manga is a ‘transnational object’? (WTFTM)

Looks interesting, I’ll check it out soon! View all comments by LH
Hi!
Thanks for another cool recommendation. I will check it out!
There are also a few other places to check out fer those with the sweet tooth! :)
-As mentioned by others, Island Creamery @Serene Ctr - The texture of the ice-cream’s good! and it’s local! sum of the
flavours are also unique and local and service’s cheerful and friendly. I also like the idea of capturing that Island Creamery moment and printing it immediately via their blueprint enabled printer fer immediate display.
-There’s this place in AMK, the name’s ‘magic freeze’, just outside the Shop n Save. The guy’s a NUS Food Sci grad making the ice cream. Texture’s good too and your fave flavours are there. He’s currently concocting an ice-cream suitable fer diabetics. oh, and it’s a very reasonable price too!
-Lastly, THE ICE CREAM sensation from… no, not the States (not Ben & Jerry’s) BUT from Down Under. The phenomenon that is Cold Rock! Is now opened @HV. They are currently giving out free toppings. Their USP is that u choose the wide range of toppings they have and they mix it into the ice-cream flavour u chose, thus creating your very own ice-cream!
-opps…and i like to mention that Azabo ice cream @Marina Sq/Central is nice too. I love the Green Tea flvr! View all comments by eujzin
