Thanks for the reply. Ok, now I can consider Japan as a possible place to visit. I prefer travelling alone, or just with one or two friends.

By the way, would you be interested to listen to a free performance of a Symphony Orchestra (which I play in) playing tunes from Phantom of the Opera and King and I?

I only know English and Mandarin too and got by just fine. There were many inconveniences along the way, like having to find eateries with English menus, taking a longer time to find the right directions due to the lack of English signs, et cetera. It has been informative to read about your trip to Japan. Looks like this is one potential place where I can travel alone too. Japan seems generally safe.

it was really a nice experience to give it a try to sleep like traditional jap when you are in their country.

wah! 100yen for taking a shower and somemore counting from 5mins, wonder how much am i going to spend on showering. =)

veron, there is a jap restaurant located at paragon, they serve wuite nice jap food. i used to go there quite often. Cant remember their name but if i am not wrong it is just beside a chinese eatery, opposite is the one selling pizza.The boss is a japanese including their chefs.
Your should give it a try on their dessert, it is really nice. Especially their rice ball, you have to dip with sweet sauce and very fine peanuts which they serve together :-) View all comments by Kirsteen (lorewang)

Ken: Oh! Ueno Zoo! We almost went there. Did you get to see the panda bear?

The video arcade attendant was really nice. I’m glad you got that Minnie Mouse plush toy in the end!

Hi! Just a stranger here. Been following your blog since stumbling upon it accidentally some time back. Totally love ur entries on Japan! Really reminds me of the times I’ve had when teaching there as an Assistant Language Teacher couple of years back!

Btw, you know the soup you poured into the tsuyu after finishing your soba is actually the soba water used to cook ur soba. Japanese are really good at not wasting food! View all comments by Kiki

Again, it appears you went to a different place than I did! When I was in Ueno, I think I only saw a park where people had set up booths, selling small knick-knacks and toys. Then we headed to the zoo, but there was nothing exciting to see there either.

I’m not sure where I played the UFO game, but did you try it? I was playing to win a Minnie Mouse doll for my gf, and one of the arcade attendants was watching me.

I missed on my first attempt, so he opened up the case and moved the doll closer to the drop point. He repeated this every time I missed. After 4-5 tries, I finally got it! Now, tell me, where else in the world can you experience customer service like that?! :) View all comments by Ken
