by this time tomorrow, i would be in bali. the place i would call home over the next couple of nights is the contiki resort. courtesy of contiki, this would be a sponsored trip — my first ever! a big shout-out to stefan, editor of funkygrad.com for offering me this awesome opportunity to review the new contiki resort in bali.
the trip couldn’t have come at a better time. for those in the know, the floor tiles at my house popped up all over due to heat/dryness/age. basically we have to redo the entire floor. on sunday the whole family picked out some nice-looking beige italian tiles to replace our 22-year-old white tiles. the contractors start work tomorrow morning and it would be one hell of a mess.
retiling an empty house is tough. retiling a family home is ten times tougher. over the past two days, we have had to shift all our (very heavy) furniture into either the kitchen, the storeroom or one of the bathrooms, since these are the only areas that will not be affected. some of the furniture has even spilled out into the common corridor!
i have graciously offered my room to be retiled first, along with the living room. right now everybody’s walking around the house in padded slippers because the floor is so dirty after all the furniture shifting. i am not sure how long the contractors need to finish their job. but i sure am glad i won’t be around over the next two days to breathe in all the dust, tolerate the noise pollution, and share my house with (likely to be) foreign workers.
back to the contiki resort bali. contiki has paid for my airfare and accommodation. i still need to go down to their office tomorrow to collect my air ticket and hotel voucher. the thing that sucks is that my flight departs tomorrow evening, and would reach bali only at night. this means i would be effectively spending just one full day in bali before coming back home saturday afternoon. i would have loved to go on a few island tours especially to ubud town, but it appears as though time is a luxury i could not afford. not that i’m complaining though. this is after all a sponsored trip, while my main purpose there is to review the resort. stefan would kill me if i didn’t do a good job.
this is my maiden trip to bali and i haven’t had time to do my research. if anyone has any tips, must-go places, recommendations, kindly leave a message. my boss allan told me to bring along a torchlight because there are no street lamps!

many go to Bali for the partying and beach life at Kuta (or the higher end resorts Nusa Dua, but the heart of Balinese culture and nature lies in the lush hill town of Ubud and the interior. Definitely worth at least a day trip. View all comments by budak

Hi,
came across ur bali review while googleing. Very interesting, especially the bungy junp is very impressive. I am heading to Bali soon and will definitely try this out too. Do you have anymore insight on outdoor activities in Bali or Singapore? I have been playing tennis but looking to do more sporty activities with like-minded. cheerio View all comments by Ivo
