goes by the name veron (english) or wanting (chinese). a definitive leo born august 1, 1984. a solo traveler. loves cats, coffee, sensual music, yummy food and technology. when she's not at her job as an IS developer for the government, she's likely to be out dining, or visiting an interesting art gallery or event.
chup sent along a very thoughtful surprise today. he had asked to meet at my place and i went along, not knowing what to expect. the surprise came in a black gift box with a silver bow, and unraveled to reveal a music box!
this isn’t just some regular old music box that you find in a gift shop. what makes it different from other music boxes is its ballerina
many music boxes have ballerinas. almost all of these ballerinas simply turn on their own axes. but this one actually dances around the mirror base when the music starts, and that’s what makes this music box unique! it’s like one of those antique wooden music boxes i see in movies.
ever since i was a little girl, i had wanted a music box like this. you would think that something like this is easy to find. but of all the music boxes i have seen selling in singapore, in bangkok, in malaysia, in hong kong, none of them have the ballerina that i want. well i guess the one place i missed was ebay.
the music that plays is “love story”. it is the theme from a 1970 movie by the same name. i haven’t actually seen this 1970 movie before, but i do love the music box tune.
the best part about this music box is the mirror. it comes decorated with beautiful curves and purple stars. chup had painstakingly designed it on photoshop, printed out the pattern and affixed it over the mirror. i was blown away when i first saw it!
thanks chup. a lot of thought and effort obviously went into this wonderful gift. i absolutely love it!

I love the stars on the mirror. Kind of my favorite shape. I have at least 5 pendants that are star-shaped. Most of my layouts tend to have stars in one way or another too.
The gift is really a very thoughtful one, and personalised, giving it that extra meaning. It doesn’t matter whether there are two or two thousand circulating around the world. The one I have is the one and only.
(And I do think that music boxes with the mobile dancing ballerina are very rare these days!)

I can’t remember whether it looks an exact duplicate, because I don’t have photos of that exhibit. But I know the stars and wavy curves look similar. Oh yeah the stars at the exhibit had more colors!

hey keith, i received the music box as a gift and it was bought from ebay. if you are not too particular about the mobile dancing ballerina you can get music boxes from most gift shops.
