i have a friend that’s currently doing a diploma in life coaching, and one of the things he needs to do is to have actual coachees with whom he would help to achieve goals. well, it’s a whole lot more complicated and professional than that, but that’s basically the gist.
during our first session together, we went through all aspects of my current life situation, and mapped out an ideal life situation. i learned a bunch of things about myself that i haven’t realised before. the most important values to me (currently) are freedom, integrity, responsibility, and appreciation, in that order.
freedom — always traveling alone; not liking it when being told what to do; not having any relationship that lasted; not liking it when being restricted or having to compromise.
integrity — fulfill what i say i would do; practise what i preach; would never do things for self-purpose at the expense of anyone else; would rather disadvantage myself than others; would not hesitate to break off ties with anyone who shows a lack of integrity, even if it’s a very good friend. been there, done that.
responsibility — especially when i have to answer to other people, ties in with integrity too; would never betray a friend; would never cheat on a partner.
appreciation — to be appreciated or at least acknowledged for my efforts; hate it when people belittle what i have done.
that’s about it. what are your values?
