’tis the season to be jolly, fa la la la la, la la la la!
i love this time of the year! christmas just warms my heart, it makes me feel all fuzzy inside :) see, i even added little nifty christmasy stuff to my blog!
at home we spent some time setting up and decorating our christmas trees. yeah, “trees”, plural! we have one large tree and one baby tree. i know it’s pretty late to put up the trees but well, better late than never!
a lot of effort went into decorating the trees. we had some ornaments left over from previous years but they weren’t enough! so my dad and i shopped for more ornaments and bought new christmas lights. we bought two different kinds of lights — one that had the light on constantly, the other with the various twinkling effects that can be toggled with the press of a button. the end result is mesmerising! we even spent time wrapping gifts to place under the tree!
and so… here’s the big tree! ta-da!

okay that’s a crappy photo but my digital camera doesn’t handle images well in the dark. so here’s one with the flash!

and this is the baby tree which is very precious! its name is mini-tree (like mini-me from austin powers) and it even has five little stuffed bears underneath.

i am not sure if many families have this tradition of decorating christmas trees, but to me this is one of the best parts about christmas! in fact, i love christmas trees so much i’m gonna post a photograph of a different tree for each of the twelve remaining days until christmas! well we’ve got today’s tree already. look out for a different tree tomorrow!

Awww. That’s really sweet that you got to decorate the tree with your dad. I don’t think many dads does that with their kids these days. Anyway, I love the mini-tree. It’s just so so so so pretty. :D
Can’t wait to see 12 more beautiful tress. Weee. :) View all comments by Lain
And I thought my family are the only ones doing this stuff, glad to see that your family enjoys putting up a christmas tree as well.
By the way, its not too late to put up the tree now, cos my family is planning to do so when I get back this Sunday.. :) View all comments by Farmer
Hey Lain,
My dad is pretty hardcore about the tree! Haha I’m in charge of hanging the ornaments while he hangs the lights, arranges the leaves, the gift boxes and stuffed animals to make sure everything looks *just* right. View all comments by Veron
Hey Farmer,
It seems not many families do this. When I look out of my window at the opposite block of flats, I don’t see any Christmas tree or lights. It doesn’t feel very festive in my neighborhood.
It’s very sweet of your family to wait ’til you are back to do it together :) Ahhh I love Christmas! Have fun! View all comments by Veron
You have probably looked into my house then *deadpans*
We don’t have a tradition of celebrating Christmas since my father is the traditional Chinese-educated type. Which probably accounts for quite a large portion of the population.
Glad you are having fun & enjoying yourself though. View all comments by Aristocrat
Our tree putting up event is a group thing every year. My family hosts a weekly bible study in our home every Wed so the tree event is a big Christmas thing for us.
We supply the tree/lights/some ornaments and the guys in the group put the tree up. Then the women help with the lights. Last of all, all of us, including the kids, get into the act into hanging the decor.
Every year, every couple will contribute one new ornament to the tree to add on. The tree is abit messy, with no fixed theme. But everyone is so attached to their past ornaments that I can’t break their heart by removing it. View all comments by Trish
Hey Trish, that sounds really heartwarming! It doesn’t matter whether or not the tree has a fixed theme. My trees are decorated with different kinds of ornaments accumulated over the years. Some have been around for than 10 years! And when I look at each ornament, I remember the story behind it. Each piece means something, so the tree is more special and more beautiful to me than any other glamorous-looking tree at shopping malls. View all comments by Veron
we love to put up the tree and decorate it when we are young. but as we got older, errr..
putting up is fun, taking it down and packing it back again is not. LOL…
but again, the real meaning of Christmas is not about the tree :-) View all comments by keropokman
