Thirsty Penguins!

Sponsored links

some months from now, i’m gonna look back at this post and squirm. but for now, i simply couldn’t resist posting this picture here!

Thirsty penguins in the desert queuing up for a drink at the cooler

just look at these thirsty penguins in the desert, scurrying for a drink at the water cooler with glass in flipper. how cute! my friend and i saw this at a shop window and spent the next five minutes going gaga over how adorable it was! penguins! thirsty! sweaty penguins! ahhh!

now, would someone please make a nice vector art desktop wallpaper out of this?

back in university, i took a media module which had an assignment that involved drawing a storyboard and creating a flash animation. it was for a commercial and the product was bugout, a mosquito repellent which had the prime selling point of being odorless. everyone else used human characters in their commercial. army guys were the most popular character. can you guess why?

me? i stumbled upon the idea of using penguins because they’re oh-so-cute and my favorite animal after cats. i clean forgot about this animation until now.

basically my story goes like this: a male penguin is on his way to meet his date (a female penguin). he walks through the woods and gets ravaged by some mosquitoes. hey presto! he uses a mosquito repellent of brand xyz on himself. unfortunately it stinks and drives his little penguin date away! so the next time round, he uses bugout, an odorless mosquito repellent. the story has a fairytale ending of course. yay!

my professor wasn’t very amused. but you can check out that flash animation. it even has music! oh, it’s also a 3mb file without any “file loading” animation so please be patient.

damn, i so wanna go to the jurong bird park to look at penguins! some day i’m gonna hug one of those little guys!

    4. Hah. I used to love penguins a lot when I was a little girl, because they are just so so so adorable! Ahh, I saw a similar one at Junction 8 too. Such a pity the dispenser not much of a use, else I’ll definitely get one! Haha.

Anyway, I do love the flash you made. Really cute. I just love how the penguins walk! :D View all comments by Huimei

    5. I don’t think they’d let you hug the penguins down at the bird park :P

If they do, let me know. I’m so gonna go if they do hehe View all comments by mervkwok

    6. Rachit: Haha! Maybe I will! I wonder if they accept .swf files?

marina: Yeah those water dispensers are cute! Those thirsty penguins make them even cuter!

sasa: It’s “Theme From A Summer Place”.

Huimei: Looks like I’m not the only penguin lover here! Actually Pitstop Cafe uses a few of those water dispensers. I knocked one over during my previous visit.

mervkwok: Another penguin lover! I think if you know the people working there you can! View all comments by Veron

    7. Hey, I have one of them at home, t’was a x’mas pressie. It makes drinking H2O oh-so-convenient, if only I were home more! Btw, the animation is really cute, unfortunately prof doesn’t like it. View all comments by Yuri
