for the regular visitors to sparklette.net, you may have noticed something new on the sidebar. i added a little twitter panel that displays the latest updates from my twitter account.
what is twitter? taken from the website: “Twitter tells people what you’re doing, thinking, feeling, observing… right now. It’s like sending a normal text message that goes to all of your friends.”
you can quickly post short messages (140 characters to be exact) either through the website, instant messaging or SMS. your messages would be seen by all those people who have added you to their list.
there is huge potential in the use of twitter. because people have the option of sending messages, as well as receiving their friends’ messages right on their mobile phone, it essentially means that you and your friends can keep each other updated on the go from anywhere in the world!
and it’s entirely free! well, except that when you send a message update from your mobile phone, you would be SMSing it to a UK number. so you may incur charges for sending an international SMS.
of course, my explanation sucks. so you can read the official FAQ for more information!
for now, i would be using twitter mainly for blogging purposes. like when i have an urge to blog but it doesn’t quite quantify as a full length post, or when something interesting happens, i’ll just drop in a couple of messages (called “tweets”). you guys would see it on the sidebar, or receive it on your mobile phone. pretty cool huh!
feel free to add me to your twitter list and follow every last detail of my life. you’ll be able to see updates like “2am and i’m so wasted on tequila”. you know, stuff like that.

Certainly not a complete explanation, but then a complete explanation would probably confuse readers anyway, so good job on that! View all comments by Farinelli
Thanks! I wrote that with newbies (people who have never heard of Twitter before) in mind. I figured that existing Twitter users would already know the service better than I do :) View all comments by Veron
Twitter is just a fad. You will likely remove it within the year.
Nice little bird I must say. View all comments by Kevin
I don’t follow fads for the sake of following.
It may be months. It may be years. As long as it serves its function and I don’t tire of it, it will remain. Who’s to say I would or wouldn’t remove it? View all comments by Veron
Aaahhh Twitter yes… For a time I activated my mobile phone and it ended up buzzing non-stop with updates - especially some serial blabbers who had to tell me that they were watching this TV show, combing their hair, brushing their teeth, walking to the bus stop etc….. However, it is a neat way to get in touch with folks. I just wished that one doesn’t have to pay international toll fees overseas.
Speaking of which yesterday.sg does have a Twitter account… I think somebody is doing it for me. Now if I can only remember who… View all comments by Walter
