this afternoon i was back in NUS to do a video recording for the commencement ceremony in july.
two graduates from each faculty were selected to do the interview. so during the video compilation, everybody’s part would be edited and pieced together in a half-hour video to be shown during commencement. my part would probably be five seconds or less. i’m gonna cry if they leave me out altogether!
in my years of study at NUS, i didn’t realise we had a full fledged production studio on campus. there was the production crew, all the equipment, as well as the room with one of those one-way windows. i got to wear a mic, and the black body pack transmitter that hooks on to my belt. it felt like i was in an actual studio production!
i got a wee bit nervous then, so i asked for some time to rehearse on my own. i didn’t want to waste their film doing repeated takes! when recording started, i still fumbled a bit with my lines. the interview questions had already been prepared beforehand. but all of a sudden i had to shrink the many paragraphs i prepared into just a few sentences.
also, i was told not look away from the camera even after i thought i had already finished recording, well not until the producer yells “CUT!”. fortunately other than the first interview question, i finished the rest in just a couple of takes. phew!
after the recording ended, the other interviewee also from the school of computing complained to me that the production crew were a lot much nicer to me. when i said the wrong lines or stammered, they helped me relax and told me to take my time. when he stammered, they got impatient and asked him, “eh why you stop?!”. haha the perks of being a girl!
i’m just looking at how much my life has changed in such a short span of time. barely six weeks ago, i was still a student, and i thought i wouldn’t show for my own commencement. now other than totally looking forward to wearing my dark blue graduation gown, i’m actually getting interviewed for the ceremony. i can’t think of a better way to leave NUS!
