i am officially a friend of yesterday.sg! it was not until the museum tour i took during the international museum day celebrations last month, that i realised there is actually a strong legion of people who are genuinely interested in singapore’s heritage. and i guess that’s what yesterday.sg is about, enthusiasts sharing nuggets of information on singapore in her yesteryears.
being the youngest out of the 15 or so members, i feel i am more of a nostalgia fan with a deep interest in but relative ignorance about singapore’s heritage. the crew seems a rather diverse one, with ages ranging all the way up to 60’s!
at yesterday.sg, heritage enthusiasts post entries with topics that range from the familiar white rabbit candy and bustling lau pa sat, to museum adventures and bumboats on the singapore river. it is comforting to know that even in this modern age, there are singaporeans who still reminisce about the past and do their part to make sure it doesn’t fizzle out all too easily.
aged things have always intrigued me quite a bit. i love the old coffee cups they use at kopi tiam (coffee shops), and vintage stuff selling at sunday flea markets. whilst walking through the ayutthaya ruins in thailand back in 2004, it was fun imagining myself being amongst the magnificent castles that stood centuries ago.

even my very own stamp collection fascinates me. the person who had used the particular stamp (purple, dated 1923-1948) that eventually landed in my hands has probably been dead for years. who did he send the letter to? what was life like back then? stamps show a million pictures from anywhere in the world. they represent a million passages of life. they really tell a million stories, don’t they? stamps are timeless!
but i digress. i’m delighted to be part of the crew striving to preserve bits and pieces of singapore’s heritage. it looks like a fun and quirky group!
i’m looking forward to my next museum trip already!

Hi! Welcome to FOY once again.
Some of your stamps look familiar… is that a World Cup 1986 stamp I see? Ah… the days of 10 cents local postage. Seems like yesterday.
Oh, the production crew in the studio that you mentioned in the previous post sounds very familiar to me. ;)

Hey acroamatic, that is indeed a World Cup stamp in the 1980’s… 1982 to be exact. Kind of fitting to display it at this time isn’t it? And you seem to know a thing or two about stamps!
Oh THAT production crew. Have you been shot by them before?
