sparklette.net Name Cards!

after attending various bloggers/technology events without being able to give out my name card when i needed to, i knew i needed to get something done. still, it wasn’t until the recent iX conference that triggered me to finally get off my lazy ass and have those name cards printed!

with help from a friend, i hurriedly designed the name card and sent it in to print22, a local printer specialising in name cards. i heard a couple of recommendations for this company before and trusted them to do a good job. it wouldn’t reflect nicely if i was to hand out name cards with a shoddy print job!

the artwork was simple — purple on one side with “sparklette.net” in crisp white font; clean white on the other with just my name, what i do, and contact details in dark purple. it had to look clean, uncluttered, professional, with the touch of a designer feel at the same time!

the artwork was sent to the printer on friday, and i received the name cards by the following wednesday morning. that’s a pretty reasonable lead time considering the printing was done in hong kong.

overall, i am very happy with the name cards! the paper quality was good and the print job was excellent. i thought i could have made the font smaller, but that might not have been too legible for some people.

i have received several compliments from people that i gave it to, ranging from the paper texture, print quality, color, and even the smell! hahaha! it’s a lovely shade of lilac, just like the background color of this blog, although some of the guys who got it thought that it’s pink!

yay! my first sparklette.net name card! raise your hand if you got one!

    4. ketsugi says:

I want one! Too bad the only name cards I have to give in return are all corporate and none of them useful for establishing any blogger street cred… :(

    5. Miccheng says:

    6. chillycraps says:

      nice card!

it kinda surprises me that they have to go a big loop and do the printing in hk…

    7. Michael Baxter says:

Nice card! Yeah, of course I want one!

(Kind of hoped that I would have received one in the mail even before I saw this on the web…hehehe)

      Anyway, very nice!

One thing, about visiting Japan. You need one!

When I got my first design consulting job here, I didn’t have a business card at the first meeting. The client told me in ‘order form’ Japanese to make a business card. At the time, my fulltime job was teaching high school. I noticed that even high school girls often had name cards. I was even employed by several of my students to design their name cards!

Your blog post made me recall this. Thanks!

    9. darren says:

    10. Naime says:

      cool design, simple yet elegant!

    11. Aen says:

Nice finish. Looks velvety. Is it digital or offset print?
My cards are running out so I better reprint soon. Is “Made in Hong Kong” good?

    12. malique says:

i used print 22 for my other venture, i must say the price is GOOD. Quality, Superb.

for personal card, i used Moo. (dotcom)
      MOOOOOOOOO..

    13. Aen says:

Thanks for the l ink malique, seems that Moo only prints “Mini Card”s nad not so much of serious business cards.

Sorry for being so loh soh. The purple printed area is it grainy or very solid purple? My black cards printed @ Colordoc isn’t completely black like offset, so it’s not optimal.

Here’s a closeup of my card and the graininess of the black.

      Hi,

I think there are some name card printing companies at Bras Basah that prints cards at this quality for a good price.

Just found it strange that someone in singapore ordered name cards from hong kong

    15. Daphne Maia says:

i always print my stuff at bras basah. there are a great number of shops there, and u can usually shop around to see who gives u the best price.

otherwise u can actually go to sim lim, basement, xclusive production. gd quality, gd service. can look for jeff.. hee.

i guess ur cards muz have cost alot, huh? :)

    16. YOU says:

STYLISH!! thumbs up to veron! :D

    17. py says:

Nice card. Good design and complements your blog’s colour. :)

Congratulations for being nominated for Ping.sg’s Best Blog Design award. A vote from yours truly for you deserve it.

    18. Veron says:

kriscell: Thanks! But I’m sticking with Print22. They have gained my trust.

LcF: Thanks! Then we can exchange name cards!

      highway: Oh, we will!

ketsugi: Then get one exclusively for your blog!

      Miccheng: Awww… You’re the sweetest!

The Cooking Ninja: Exactly what I was going for. Thanks!

chillycraps: It surprised me too. Quite puzzling actually since they are a Singapore company. I didn’t think it would be cheaper to get it printed in Hong Kong than in Singapore.

Michael Baxter: Haha I sure didn’t know that Japanese “order” people around! No worries about the name card. I would personally give you one once we meet in Kyoto!

      Bianca: Thanks!

darren: It’s S$35 for 300 name cards. One of the cheapest around I might say.

      Naime: Glad you like it!

Aen: Not so sure what type of print it is. The artwork I submitted was in CMYK colors, and catered for a 1mm bleed. To answer your latter question: Nope, there is no graininess at all. It’s a smooth, pure purple throughout! I think you would be happy with the print quality!

malique: I considered Moo cards some months before this. But eventually I realised that they’re overused.

Mark: Very puzzling indeed. But I’m a happy and satisfied customer!

Daphne Maia: Thanks, but I’m sticking with Print22! The price ($35 for 300 cards) they offer is very reasonable. And I trust them now :)

      YOU: Thanks!

      py: Thanks for the vote!
