Christmas Tree of the Day #12 (2009 Edition) – This Tree’s Got Balls!
For 2009, the last (but not least) of the Christmas Tree of the Day series hails from Tanglin Mall. Made up of spheres and sprinkled with hundreds of twinkling lights, it is certainly an eye-catching piece of work.
Looking at the Christmas decorations, I would never have guessed that they are made from recycled materials! The innovative creation involves months of effort where staff went around collecting coconut husks, parking coupons, lottery tickets and fruit wrappers to churn them into beautiful works of festive art.
The hard work paid off as the mall wins this year’s Best Dressed Building title, beating out ten other competitors in Orchard Road including Orchard Central, Paragon, Ngee Ann City and The Heeren.

This is not the first time that the mall has gone green. Last year, their tree was made with shredded plastic bottles.

One big draw every year is the simulated snow storm. The snow may not be the real thing, but that does not stop the crowd from covering themselves in bubbles and engaging in snowball fights every night the snow falls!

Hey the tree looks cool! The airplane at the top gives off an adventure vibe.
As for the fake snow, to be frank I don’t really see what all the hype is about. I can understand when children like to play with it, but when grown-ups do it it makes me wonder. The soapy foam sticks to you and you have to find some place to clean it off afterwards. Not exactly what I call fun *shrugs*

Hehe as adults we tend to be more practical I guess. Children simply throw caution to the win and have fun, without worrying about the mess afterward. Then there are the adults who are young at heart that do the same…

That christmas tree is definitely “Best from Waste”. A wonderful effort put forth by the staff. I liked these pics. Thanks for sharing. Wish you a happy new year!
