Nescafé Dolce Gusto: Making Various Beverages with the Circolo Coffee Machine [Video]

Nescafé Dolce Gusto is a joint partnership between Nescafé and German kitchen appliance manufacturer Krups, drawing coffee lovers’ attention with the introduction of two innovative coffee machines: Genio and Circolo.

We got the chance to try out the Circolo coffee machine in the gorgeous shade of metal red over five days. The sleek and futuristic design will spruce up any modest kitchen, and make an exciting new feature to a sophisticated home.

Apart from high-quality coffee – from the classic cappuccino to the rich espresso and refreshing lattes – this versatile machine also serves up velvety chocolate and soothing tea varieties.

What’s more, the machine weighs less than 5kg! You can shift it around your house as you deem fit.

The removable drip tray is made of long-lasting stainless steel cover; there is no mess to clean up. Simply wipe around the machine with a cloth, and remove the drip tray for rinsing.

The drip tray is also height-adjustable to accommodate cups and glasses of different sizes. Whether you’re making a shot of espresso or a tall glass of latte, adjust it by simply “pulling out” the drip tray and “slotting in” at the ideal height.

The aluminum thermoblock system passes short spurts of water over a highly heated element, turning water into steam; the temperature is constant and consistent from the very first cup. Hot water is dispensed at the temperature of 80°C to 90°C.

The water reservoir has a capacity of 1.3 litres, and it is removable for easy re-filling. If you don’t wish to add ice to your drink they melt and dilute the beverage, you can add ice to the water reservoir. This method is highly recommended for the cappuccino ice beverage, which is basically iced coffee with a twist of creamy milk with a smooth swirl of espresso.

The LED backlight allows you to make coffee even in the dark. This function is especially useful if you’re working throughout the night and need a caffeine boost.

In addition to the LED backlight, the Nescafé Dolce Gusto coffee machines boast an energy saving feature that automatically switches the machine off after twenty minutes of idle time.

Making various beverages

The patented technology allows you to make hot beverages such as espresso, cappuccino, green tea latte and cold options like cappuccino ice and peach tea; there are over 25 varieties available worldwide. The coffee used in the capsules is made of premium 100% Arabica beans.

Once you’ve inserted a coffee capsule, push down the mechanical lever to puncture a hole in the capsule. Turn the selection wheel (adjusting knob) and the dosage level (water level) will be reflected on the lighted area.

You can customise your own perfect cuppa by adjusting the concentration of the beverage and by choosing “hot” or “cold”.

Mocha will satisfy chocolate lovers who want an extra dose of chocolate in their coffee. The beverage is smooth and velvety, with a rich chocolaty flavour! Highly recommended!

For milk-based beverages like green tea latte and chai tea latte, you will need to use two different capsules. The machine is all-in-one; there is no need for a separate milk frothier.

The green tea latte is crafted with the finest quality of Japanese green tea leaves, coupled with smooth, foamy milk.

This is a personal favourite. The beverage is smooth and velvety, with exceptional layers of froth. It is lightly sweetened, without the bitterness of green tea.

For something more exotic, the chai tea latte transports you to the land of India.

The chai tea latte is a delicious blend of spices – cinnamon, ginger, cloves and cardamon – along with a dash of sugar and frothy milk for a stylish cuppa. It is another beverage that comes highly recommended.

Nestea Peach is refreshing with a peachy fragrance. It is frothy on top even without the addition of milk. It’s a totally different tea-drinking experience! Add ice before dispensing for the ideal cold beverage.
