Borgata Trattoria Osteria – Italian Dining at the Quay
Clarke Quay is one of the first choices for party animals when it comes to a night out in Singapore. But let’s face it, when you want good food at affordable prices, the place is nobody’s first choice. Or so I thought. The Italian restaurant, Borgata Trattoria Osteria, at The Cannery, offers decent food at decent prices. Take your pick from the menu which offers familiar Italian favorites such as pizzas and pastas, as well as a selection of main courses. Alfresco seating allows for people-watching... Read more →
Tampopo Restaurant – The Noodle is “Thick & Chewie”
Tampopo. That’s the name of a Japanese restaurant we checked out recently. Truth be told, it is the unforgettable name that enticed us to pay it a visit in the first place. There’s a Japanese movie that goes by the exact same name, and cheekily calls itself a “Noodle Western” movie (you know, like Spaghetti Westerns?). Aside from that we have no inkling beforehand on what the food would be like. Stone grilled beef curry rice SGD16.80++ One of the dishes that we have tried... Read more →
Trung Nguyen Coffee – Drip! Drip! Goes the Coffee
Friends around me know that I’m an avid coffee drinker, preferring the traditional flavors of Ya Kun, toast box and Old Town to the Western cafés. (for Old Town, I’m referring to the 3-in-1 sachets that you buy from the supermarket, not the cafés.) One type of coffee that I find particularly intriguing is the Vietnamese Ca Phe Phin (drip coffee). The coffee cup comes with a stainless metal drip filter on top that allows the coffee to slowly trickle through the press and into... Read more →
Christmas Tree of the Day #6 (2008 Edition)
Check out the highly unusual Christmas tree at the central — it’s pretty in pink and comes with tinges of deep purple too! The mall has a knack for displaying Christmas trees that look out of the norm. Last year, they had a remarkable tree made out of golden balls! But my vote goes out to this year’s tree, which coincidentally sports golden balls too, but made from fabric instead. (more…) Read more →
Christmas Tree of the Day #5 (2007 Edition)
Check out this unique yet somewhat bizarre looking tree. It’s mighty tall and looks like it’s been touched by King Midas — it’s all gold and bright and shiny! /> You wouldn’t find a single leaf on this tree. Instead, it is entirely made up of lighted rods with golden balls attached at the ends. These balls vary in sizes, and textures too. Some of them are shiny gold, while the rest are matte gold. The whole thing resembles a multi-tiered solar system, and gives off... Read more →
Riverside Indonesian Restaurant – BBQ Extravaganza [Closed]
In a recent post, I raved about the riverside Indonesian BBQ stall in Plaza Singapura. This is a stall I have been patronising for 5 to 6 years and I swear to god they have the best grilled chicken anywhere! After learning that the riverside Indonesian restaurant opposite Clarke Quay (right beside Café Iguana) has a direct affiliation, it scored the top spot on my list of “restaurants to check out”. I went there for the first time recently and found that the restaurant serves very... Read more →
Sizzling Hot Guys at Gotham Penthouse! [Closed]
Hot dudes with boyish good looks, rippling muscles and washboard abs! Watch these boys gyrate their chiseled bodies to the rhythm of the music! Oh, and have I mentioned that they are topless most of the time, too? Guys, you may skip this post. This one is for the ladies! I spent a very hot night at Gotham Penthouse watching the male exotic dance/stripper group, Odyssey, do their thang! Finally! It had been such a long wait! God knows how many times I had walked past the club in Clarke Quay longing... Read more →
Sho-U – Show of Food and Aesthetics
At Sho-U, one of the newest Japanese restaurants in town, the thing that strikes visitors the most would probably be its unique design. Don’t get me wrong though, the food at this contemporary Japanese fine-dining establishment is nothing short of excellent. But being a sucker for aesthetics (something that Singapore restaurants aren’t particularly known for), I am glad for this new place that has a decor I can really rave about! Visitors are first greeted by the striking red entrance... Read more →
Christmas Tree of the Day #4 (2006 Edition)
Ooh I know today’s Tree of the Day is a little late. I just came home from a night’s out at Clarke Quay! Here’s a Christmas tree from there: Photo by imedagoze With its jester theme, this is probably the most colorful Christmas tree I have seen this year. My favorite part is the gold mask on the far right — love the glitter! (more…) Read more →
