With a mix of savoury peanuts with bittersweet chocolate, it’s no wonder this is one of the best-sellers.

Those looking for an afternoon pick-me-up should try the lemon molten cake. I am usually not a fan of citrus flavours with chocolate, but I enjoy its refreshing lift against the rich cocoa base.

Hazelnut
S$6.50

Those with a sweet tooth can aim for the hazelnut or white chocolate molten cakes, which are definitely the sweeter flavours from the selection available. For alcohol lovers, the cherries jubilee is the one for you. Served with whole cherries buried inside, its subtle sweetness and alcoholic touch adds another dimension to the molten cake.

Sea salt & caramel ice cream
S$3.50

Available as a simple treat on its own, or a sinful add-on to your molten cake, the ice cream at 3 Inch Sin has been customised to be less sweet without compromising its taste, allowing the flavours of the molten cakes to still shine through.

My personal favourite is the sea salt & caramel ice cream. With a blend of sweetness and saltiness, I can literally have three servings in a go! Seasonal flavours are available as well, so check with the staff.

Besides molten cakes and ice cream, a selection of other desserts is also available.

The Dark Side
$6/slice, $30/6 inches, $50/8 inches

A chocolate tart with a smooth, dark chocolate ganache made purely with Valrhona chocolate, The Dark Side will definitely appeal to those who prefer a more solid dessert compared to the molten cakes. While the meat is a tad under seasoned for my liking, it also allows you to taste the meat’s freshness without the overpowering flavour. And that leaves room for pairing the beef with the specially concocted sauces. My top picks are the rich and flavourful Béarnaise and black pepper sauces.

For those who have the stomach for raw meat, by all means go for the tartare (S$17.90), comprising raw minced beef, egg, onions, parsley, chives, capers and tartar sauce. I recommend the wholesome combination of toast with chicken floss and condensed milk. If you feel the need for even more oomph, throw on more syrup from the accompanying bottle.

Hot tip #2: If you spend $10 or more from 3 to 6pm on weekdays, you can enjoy the French toast and thick toast at just a dollar.

Flying KungFu wings
S$5.80++ for 3
Rating:

Even with its cheesy name, I’m a fan of the Flying KungFu wings. And the Flaming crab pasta does not disappoint. With that extremely spicy but oh-so-succulent and sweet chilli crab sauce, this dish is hot all right.

Desserts

For the sweet tooth, you can pick from the large variety of desserts and smoothies. In particular, I am most fascinated by the shaved iced dessert range. I am used to seeing the regular ice kacang, and it is the first time I am seeing shaved ice presented like this:

Crushing sesame shaved ice dessert
S$6.80++
Rating:

Doesn’t it resemble a volcano, with the chocolate syrup running like hot lava down the sides? These refreshing shaved ice desserts are available in exotic flavours like green tea with Japanese red bean and champagne grape. My pick is Crushing sesame which features black sesame with crushed peanuts and chocolate sauce.

I really dig the fluffy texture of the shaved ice especially when it is paired with the crushed peanuts. From here, you can take ferry rides to the Southern islands of Singapore such as kusu island and saint john’s island. And by “medley”, they mean mussels, prawns and scallops — two of each — with half a stick of burnt bread thrown in for good measure. When it comes to shellfish, most of the time you don’t really get to eat that much of its flesh. But in this case, there was really a whole lot of lobster flesh on my plate! I had never had so much lobster to myself before. It made me so happy :)

I could taste the naturally sweet seafood flavour of the lobster that was, fortunately, not masked by the rich pommery mustard sauce and cream sauce. The gruyere cheese melted atop the lobster gave it an extra nice finishing! If that’s not enough to fill the stomach, the lobster was also served with potato, gratin tomato and a stack of greens.

By the way, would someone please recommend a delicious and similar lobster dish elsewhere? I’m hungering for some lobster already!

Beef lasagna
S$16.80

For something more filling, diners can always opt for the beef lasagna, which is good too. That’s what we came for! The apple pie is an excellent choice, especially for those of you who love having some fruit in your dessert. The apple pie here is served a la mode, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Nice!

Sticky fondant chocolate lava
S$8.50
Rating:

For me personally, I prefer desserts that aren’t fruity, and all the better if it’s chocolate! The chocolate lava cake here is served with cute peach balls and a scoop of ice cream. It’s my first time having this dessert with cookies and cream ice cream; most of the time, it would be vanilla. In any case, cookies and cream ice cream pairs perfectly with the chocolate fondant!

Another unusual thing about this particular lava cake is that instead of having hot molten chocolate oozing out of the cake, it is drizzled all over the cake. It works too. Everything I found on the plate was good, from the round hard biscuit to the white chocolate stick to the very moist and very chocolatey cake! Yum!

Over here, there is no service charge despite the top-notch service. In fact, the prices on the menu are extremely reasonable considering the quality of food delivered. It seems that the club’s priority is to allow its members to enjoy the food and facilities rather than being out to make every penny possible. What a wonderful outlook!

The Tavern
Tanglin Club
5 Stevens Road
Singapore 257814
Tel: +65 6739 4129 / +65 6739 4139 / +65 6739 4140 | Website
Service:

Members only

These posts may be related

<img src="http://cdn.sparklette.net/wp-content/themes/v2/thumb.php?src=http://sparklette.net/archives/1169/hippopotamus-restaurant-grill-steaks.jpg&h=60&w=60&zc=1" width="60" height="60" alt="Hippopotamus Restaurant Grill – Something like this one at Bakerzin:

Now compare it with Délifrance’s…

I mean, what the heck is that? But no, the chocolate cake was dry and crumbly, like stale cake! The chocolate lava was rather watered down and tasted a little funky.

Actually, it looked like one of those instant lava cakes that you can find at a supermarket. You know, the kind that you pop into the microwave oven and eat afterwards. Looks like I’m gonna give it a miss from now on.

Bistro Délifrance ( Halal certified)
- 510 Bishan Street 13 #10-520
- Chinatown Point, 133 New Bridge Road #01-07/08/10/11/12
- Lot One, 21 Choa Chu Kang Ave 4 #03-12
- Tampines Mall, 4 Tampines Central 5 #01-38
Website

I’m always on the hunt for good chocolate lava cake. Okay, intriguing, that’s the word! I have never really enjoyed cream-based pasta, but for the first time I am actually loving it! There is just so much flavour and spice in the chilli tomato cream. It is quite spicy and has a very peculiar sourness due to the lime zest. Like the crab meat linguini, it has been cooked to al dente perfection. It sure looks like you can’t go wrong with pasta at Wild Rocket!

Finally, the desserts, the primary reason why Wild Rocket is in my list of “restaurants to check out” in the first place. I have a soft spot for warm chocolate lava cake. Just give me a mound of it and I’ll be as happy as a bouncy 3 year old!

Dark lava chocolate gateau with vanilla ice cream
S$13+++
Rating:

The dark lava chocolate gateau comes with two options. The thin cake layer holds the delectable warm chocolate lava that oozes out as you slice a fork through it. Wow, my entire mouth just filled with saliva!

A cup of black coffee would have gone perfectly with the chocolate cake, putting an end to a very cosy dining experience at Wild Rocket. Even with its slightly posh slant, the restaurant still exudes a sense of homeliness and comfort.

I rarely visit the same restaurant more than once unless it is really, really good. Wild Rocket definitely fits into this category. When it comes to food, service, decor and ambience, Wild Rocket has certainly gotten all of it right — a rarity.

Wild Rocket at Mount Emily
Hangout Hotel
10A Upper Wilkie Road
Singapore 228119
Tel: +65 6339 9448
Service:
www.wildrocket.com.sg

The good things do not end here. Ever since I was a little girl, I have had this thing for stars and astronomy. Here, the strawberries and syrup streaks had been arranged prettily to resemble meteors. It was practically art on a plate!

Not only was the dessert pleasing to the eye, the milk chocolate mousse was smooth and creamy too. Thankfully it wasn’t too sweet at the same time.

Overall we were charmed by both desserts. They gave new meaning to the phrase “delicious sin”! I shudder to think of the calorie count though. Oh they also have this bunch of little booklets on every table. I took one home with me, thought it would make a nice mini coffee table book.

It is a tiny square booklet that looks rather fancy, with full colour pages along with photographs, coffee facts and personality profiles. There is even a coffee astrology section! Here’s the profile of a leo coffee drinker:

Trendy Leo is the first to try and learn everything about popular espresso based drinks. Lions have espresso machines at home and are ferocious about perfecting their crema and frothing techniques. Tcc’s gourmet espresso selection like the Azuki Coffee and the Citrus Avalon are a definite hit with the Leos.

Interesting eh?

Other than the great coffee and awesome desserts, the service at tcc is also consistently excellent, a rarity in Singapore. When I visit a café I want to be able to sit down and relax over a cuppa joe. Helpful and well-mannered waitstaff certainly help. Over here, they treat every guest with courtesy and respect whether you’re spending 10 bucks or 100 bucks.

Every tcc café is also artfully designed and unique from one another, with nice ambience and soothing music. Personally I would prefer some place quiet like the branch at Great World City, where the crowd is smaller and makes for a more relaxed experience.

tcc
- ION Orchard
- PoMo
- Wisma Atria
- International Building
- Suntec City
- Anchorpoint
- Central
- Changi Airport T3 Arrival Hall
- Marina at Keppel Bay
- Changi Airport T3 Departure
- No. 4 Robinson Road
- Samsung Hub
- German Centre
- Novena Square
- Centrepoint
- Bugis Junction (Atrium)
- The Pier @ Robertson
- Funan DigitaLife Mall
- The Atrium @ Orchard
- Isetan Scotts
- Singapore Management University
- Citylink Mall
- Raffles Xchange
- Great World City
- Peranakan Place
- Bugis Junction (Main Boutique)
- NTUC Building @ One Marina Boulevard
- Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA)
- Millenia Walk
- Clarke Quay
- Circular Road
- Beach Centre
Website

These posts may be related

tcc – High Tea Set for March 2011
4,291

tcc – High Tea Set for a Sweet Valentine
5,566

tcc – Perfect Ten High Tea Set
5,759

tcc – Pasta with Benefits
7,053

View the original article and join the discussion at:
http://sparklette.net/food/tcc-chocolate/ | 3 comments

Like on Facebook | Follow on Twitter | Download free iPhone app

© 2011 Sparklette.net
