Veron Ang
Me and my son, Ethan (aged 2 months here)

Welcome to Sparklette Magazine. We bring you the scoop on sights and eats in Singapore, Asia and beyond.

My name is Veron Ang (pronounced like Veron in Veronica) and I founded Sparklette in early 2003. Here, you can read about the things I enjoy in life. That includes food, travel and technology! After becoming a mom (hi, Baby Ethan!) in the second part of 2013, I have also started reviewing baby products here as well.

This website started out as a hobby when I was doing my bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at the National University of Singapore. Amazingly, the site rapidly grew in readership from all over the world. I am thankful everyday for all the fulfilment I have gained from this site. That is simply impossible without you (yes, that’s you reading this right now)!

Thank you for making it possible for me to share part of my life on Sparklette. I hope you enjoy your stay here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What camera do you use?

A: I get this question a lot! In the early years I started off with the Konica Minolta DiMAGE X50 before switching to the Canon IXUS 870 IS. Both are highly compact digital cameras that serve me well and fit in my purse nicely. From late 2012 onwards, I stick with my iPhone, which does an amazingly effective job of taking sharp snaps and panorama shots.

Q: Can I use your pictures?

A: Unless indicated otherwise, all pictures on Sparklette are copyrighted. We appreciate a hyperlink to https://sparklette.net if you decide to use any on your website. If you wish to use our pictures for commercial purposes, please contact us for the high-resolution originals.

Q: Can I view your site on my mobile phone?

A: Yes, Sparklette is 100% responsive on mobile devices. The site scales down nicely on your small and tablet screens (go ahead, try it!).

Q: Can you recommend a Chinese / Japanese / buffet / ________ restaurant?

A: Sure, I’ll try my best. But before you write to me, you may wish to mouse over the “Food & Drink” link above or do a search. That way, you get your answers in the quickest way!

Q: How much time do you spend on an article?

A: From processing the photos and planning the outline, to writing actual content and doing post editing, it takes me approximately 4 to 6 hours to complete an average article. That doesn’t include the actual time spent dining at the restaurant / staying at the hotel / using the product!

Q: What made you decide to start Sparklette?

A: I started blogging as a means of keeping a diary of my daily life and keeping in touch with friends. At the very beginning, it was purely for hobby’s sake and I loved (still do) tinkering with the design and layout of the site, along with writing new content and answering comments. Eventually it grew into a passion.

Q: What does Sparklette even mean?

A: It is just a unique brand name :) I wanted something memorable and shimmery-sounding, and brainstormed from several words including “sparkles”. Eventually “Sparklette” was born.
