Canard de bain (Rubber Duck)
Artist: Florentijn Hofman
Year: 2007
Location: Loire River, France
Dimensions: 26 x 20 x 32 meters
Materials: Inflatable, rubber coated PVC, pontoon and generator

compare the rubber ducky with the group of people standing beside it and you can see how massive it is! look carefully, there is a faint curvy line beneath the duck’s neck. yep, this inflatable duck can even nod its head!

here are more cute pictures!

hofman created this ducky for loire estuary 2007, an outdoor contemporary-art exhibition in france. opened on june 1, this art exhibition features works of 30 artists from around the world. all art creations have been installed along a 40-mile stretch at the mouth of the loire river in france, from saint-nazaire to nantes.

this is how hofman describes his cute creation:

A yellow spot on the horizon slowly approaches the coast. People have gatherd and watch in amazement as a giant yellow Rubber Duck approaches. The spectators are greeted by the duck, which slowly nods its head. The Rubber Duck knows no frontiers, it doesn’t discriminate people and doesn’t have a political connotation. The friendly, floating Rubber Duck has healing properties: it can relieve mondial tensions as well as define them. The rubber duck is soft, friendly and suitable for all ages!

speaking of rubber ducks, the splash-rific great singapore duck race is back!

adopt a funky rubber duck for $10 and send it to race with other funky rubber ducks on the singapore river! all ducks wear their own shades. if i’m not wrong, you can also adopt the duck for $5 and keep it as a souvenir.

have a splashing weekend!

CAPTION: Godzilla was not amused at the mass appeal of his latest competitor for the title of “Most Popular City-destroying Giant Monster” :D

I have one question: Does the giant rubber ducky still squeak when you squeeze it? And if so, how do you squeeze it?

P.S. The only thing missing from the photos above is the giant rubber ducky on a rampage, shooting laser beams from its eyes and destroying annoying little military helicopters and planes, and blasting the city of radioactive breath.

    7. Valerie says:

wahha its so cute and gigantic!

    8. Sentosa Girl says:

    11. Lemizeraq says:

Hi, very nice site and a HUGE and cute ducky :) maybe singapore should also have one huge ducky instead of thousands of small ones in the rubber duck race :) Definitely the MOTHER of all duckies :)

    12. Jayson says:

This duck is cute and is irresistably meaty!
Believe it or not … this duck gives me cravings for duck rice …

*runs down to coffeeshop to order a packet of duck rice …

      quack quack

    13. Veron says:

Hai~Ren: To squeeze Rubber Ducky, I think only Godzilla or King Kong can do it.

Sentosa Girl: I don’t find the duck race ducks cute either!

arzhou: Great idea! I wonder what would be the other 6?

      Kev: It’s in France!

Lemizeraq: Good one. Now we just need to import this giant rubber ducky. It can be a permanent art installation since our government is suddenly so enthusiastic about public art.

      Jayson: It is NOT meaty!

    14. Lan-Anh says:

How cute! Now the artist only needs to create a big bathtub so that one can take a huge bubble bath with this bling bling duck, lol

Btw. I love the your design Veron. Eastcoastlife has just tagged me. So I decided to tag you. Read my latest post >_
