Ever since I’ve been back from Japan, I have been eating ayam penyet (smashed fried chicken) almost everyday! What’s even more amazing is that I’m buying it from the same stall all the time. This particular ayam penyet stall is THAT awesome. Ayam penyet is a popular rice dish found at most hawker centres. The chicken is deliberately smashed with a wooden mallet after deep-frying, apparently to loosen the meat from the bone. Ayam Penyet (Smashed Fried Chicken) S$4 Rating: After my disappointment at Ayam Penyet Ria (the Indonesian restaurant at Lucky Plaza that just about everyone is raving about), I have become rather wary about trying this dish; I am afraid the chicken would turn out to be too dry and hence inedible! But this particular stall consistently churns out an awesome ayam penyet! Not only is the chicken tender and juicy, along with the sinfully crispy skin, it also comes with a generous amount of super tasty chilli sauce! BashfulHunter: I think someone recommended the ayam penyet at Changi to me once. But I have yet to try it out for myself.

went to try this during lunch just now, but i thought the one near kembangan mrt tastes much better! more crispy chicken there.

Awww! But I have no complaints with them so far. The chicken has always been crispy each time. Maybe they were having an off day!

Jalan Bt Merah is one place I have seldom ventured to. But shall remember the ABC Market and this stall if I do visit Jln Bt Merah one day.

Hi… I live in JB and there are some Ayam Penyet Stall in JB too. I have tried the food and it taste good. Come to JB stall at the Larkin Plaza, Larkin Johor Bahru. The stall name is Nasi Campur (K11) but they sell Ayam Penyet too. Have a try. Cheap only cost you RM5.00. I can guarantee you’ll like it.

There’s a direct bus that goes to Larkin Terminal from Singapore. If Larkin Plaza is anywhere near the terminal I would love to check out this Nasi Campur stall you’re raving about!

hello! i notice the heading says ‘Closed’. does that mean that this stall is no longer around? i have a major craving for ayam penyet now and i can’t seem to find any reviews of them in the bukit timah/queensway area! :(

This stall at ABC Market has closed, but I heard that it has reopened at the Seah Im Food Centre. I can’t confirm this as I have not been there myself.
There are many Muslim stalls at ABC Market that also sell Ayam Penyet. One that I have tried and liked is the stall called “Nasi Ayam Geylang Serai”. Hope this helps!
