There are gourmet food stores, and then there is Dean & DeLuca.
The brand name synonymous with artisanal product indulgence, and with over 34 years of history under its belt, has brought its signature New York City gourmet experience to Singapore with a flagship store at Orchard Central.

Besides the tempting and unique assortment at the cheese and charcuterie counter, which also doubles as a welcoming entrance to the store, gourmet enthusiasts will be delighted by the delectable dishes the signature Dean & DeLuca café has to offer.
Pricing available at the in-store bakery
Hot on the trail of the raging brunch trend in Singapore, the café serves up an all-day breakfast menu. This is in addition to a wide selection of salads and hot dishes that changes daily and is available for both dine-in or takeaway.

The appealing display of soft scrambled eggs topped with dill-cured salmon and chives instantly differentiates The New Yorker from your run-of-the-mill bagel breakfast options.
Cooked with truffle oil, its aromatic fragrance lends a subtle yet enhancing touch to the creamy scrambled eggs. With the freshly toasted bagel playing up the contrasts in textures and a side of thick cream cheese to round off the flavours, this breakfast number is both simple yet deluxe.

Just when you think Dean & DeLuca will play it safe with an eggs benedict dish, the café switches out bacon for jamón ibéric (a type of cured ham produced in Spain), the muffin base for pumpernickel, and throws in sautéed mushrooms to create the eggs Iberico.
While I enjoy the sweet pumpernickel, and the way it complements the hollandaise sauce and beautifully executed poached eggs, the cured ham is a touch too savoury for my taste and detracts from the overall enjoyment.

Cooked to soft perfection, the salted caramelised bananas – a scrumptious marriage of smoky salted caramel flavour with sweet, tender banana – seem to almost melt in the mouth. The crusty toasted brioche soaks up the syrup. Topped with fresh berries and a scoop of lush vanilla ice cream, this dish is simply heavenly. A definite must-try!

Layers of fluffy light oat and honey buttermilk pancakes form the foundation of this berries and Flap Jacks breakfast. The generous spread of fresh berries lends a mouthwatering mix of sweetness and tartness to the small tower. The liberal touch of light whipped cream is deeply satisfying, though sweettooths will revel in Dean & DeLuca’s own organic pure maple syrup, provided on the side.
The store also carries gourmet products, such as the award-winning Sarabeth’s fruit spreads, which are sure to spice up any ordinary home breakfast.

Orange-apricot marmalade
Peach apricot
Strawberry rhubarb
Chunky apple
Chunky apple is extremely agreeable on the palate, and will go perfectly as a topping for ice cream or toast alike. Peach apricot is the most outstanding highlight from the selection. The toothsome unity of the two fruity flavours has won over me, a self-professed peanut butter-lover.
Breakfast is relatively pricey, compared to other available breakfast choices, but Dean & DeLuca sets itself apart with an unparalleled food and ingredient selection that will please both foodies and home chefs alike.
