You’ll be hard-pressed to find a more artistic and friendly place to stay than the Rendezvous Hotel. Known as Rendezvous Grand Hotel before Far East Organisation took over in late 2013, the hotel is ideally suited for staycating locals, and both business and leisure travellers.
A hotel with artistic flair, the Rendezvous Hotel is fittingly located in the arts and cultural district along Bras Basah, surrounded by museums, art schools and unique cafés. The Orchard Road shopping belt and Bugis shopping districts are close by, with malls like The Cathay and Plaza Singapura just within walking distance.
The spacious hotel lobby is injected with a touch of technology. A massive colour-changing LED pillar stands as the centrepiece.
For guests that need to do some research on where to go and what to see, they are free to use the latest iPad Airs here.
Rendezvous Hotel Singapore Club Room
Hubby, myself and baby Ethan checked in on its (re)opening day for a weekend staycation. We swiftly settled into our Club Room on the 11th floor, which is home to the hotel’s club lounge.
The room is done in an updated retro style. Our king bed is sheathed in white linen under a regal beige headboard.
On one side of the wall, the wallpaper pays homage to Oscar Wilde with one of his most famous quotes.
Baby Ethan gets his own comfy cot for the night, though he generally prefers cosleeping with mommy and daddy!
Hey baby, what’s so funny?
The expansive mirror, mounted just adjacent to the bed, serves more than just aesthetic purposes.
If you have a baby, put him or her in front of the mirror and get prepared for endless amounts of chuckles and laughs!
The bathroom is small, clean and efficient, equipped with a shower stall (no tub) and beautiful blue-toned mosaic tiles at the vanity top area. If you’re wondering why I’m even mentioning tiles, hubby and I have a new place coming up this year, which is why we pay extra attention to furnishings these days!
As part of the club benefits, guests are provided with upgraded bath amenities by French Connection.
Not pictured here, but certainly worthy of a mention is the heated bidet toilet seat. Just like how tablets weren’t a thing before the iPad came about, the heated toilet is one of those things that you never thought you would need until you have sat on one. Yes, even in Singapore! Now we’re seriously considering installing one in our new home.
Rendezvous Hotel Singapore Club Lounge
If you are booking a stay in the Club room, here’s a hot tip for you. The room 1128 has the best access to Club Rendezvous, the hotel’s club lounge; it is literally right at the doorstep!
Club guests can relax at the club lounge, where buffet breakfast, evening cocktails and all-day refreshments are served daily. The silver custom-made curtains are beautiful (interior-design mind mode: on), featuring a greyscale panoramic photograph of the Singapore skyline and Marina Bay.
From the club lounge, you get a view of the Singapore Management University next door as well as the National Museum of Singapore and city skyline in the distance.
The staff at the club lounge are very efficient and attentive, always greeting guests and taking drink orders. At one point when I requested for hot chocolate and they had already run out of it, the staff did not hesitate to make a trip to the restaurant downstairs just to get the cocoa powder.
Breakfast at the Club Lounge
For breakfast, club guests can help themselves to eggs Benedict, smoked salmon, salads, siew mai (pork dumplings), croissants and a range of pastries.
Evening cocktails at the Club Lounge
The evening cocktails feature a wide spread of hors d’oeuvres and finger foods, such as canapés, tartlets, macarons and desserts.
Rendezvous Hotel Singapore dining
For more dining options, the Rendezvous Hotel has a few restaurants under its roof.
Basking in natural light, The Courtyard is a popular place to hang out in the day over a cup of English breakfast tea paired with freshly baked scones.
In the evening, stop by Balzac Brasserie for a meal of classic French cuisine and wine. I recommend the lobster bisque, pan fried foie gras, beef cheek and chocolate Moelleux.
Of course, there is also Straits Cafe, which serves reasonably priced buffet spreads that I have enjoyed a long term love affair with.
Rendezvous Hotel Singapore facilities
The hotel offers a fitness centre and swimming pool with jacuzzi. Unwind at the outdoor pool which provides the perfect retreat for relaxation.
As is common in the travel industry, we were provided with complimentary accommodation for the purpose of reviewing the service.
