When a sudden food craving hits, it’s usually almost impossible to resist. And that’s what happened recently when I had an insatiable urge to indulge in some spicy tomato mussels. Sea-facing restaurant The Mussel Guys at VivoCity seemed the natural choice.
Truth be told, my first dining experience at The Mussel Guys a few years back left me wanting. Their watered down version of mussel pasta was abysmal and I swore never to return. This time round, a dear friend encouraged me to give them another chance.
Thankfully, the spicy mussels did not disappoint.
S$18.90++ for 350grams / S$23.90++ for 500grams
For the mussel main courses, you have your pick from variations including steamed, baked, fried and creamy, and choose either the 350gram or 500gram portion. If you go for the larger portion (I counted 18 mussels), it is also accompanied by a free side of fries.
Served in a deep clay bowl, the mussels swim to table in a seductive tomato-chilli-garlic sauce. Though the sauce isn’t nearly as thick as how Stevo’s Salads n Such does their chilli mussels, I find it succulent and delicious enough to lap up every last bit heartily.
The mussels are plump and juicy, and go perfectly with the spicy tomato sauce.
If you’re a bivalve fan, head straight for the mussels main courses at The Mussel Guys. They really hit the spot this time.
