I’m not exactly a fan of noodle dishes. But recently, a colleague introduced me to the famous Pontian Wanton Mee and I was sold! Since then, we’ve been having this colourful dish at least once a week! wanton mee is a type of Chinese dish with noodles (mee) and dumplings (wanton).
The Pontian Wanton Mee stall has a long history dating back 60 years. They have a few branches all over Singapore at various hawker centres and food centres.
At lunchtime, there would always be a long queue forming in front of the stall for their handmade wanton mee. Yes, the dumplings are handmade. Even the mee itself is handmade. Check it out!
S$2.80 or $3.20

Colourful! On the first taste, I was won over by the sweet and spicy sauce consisting of both chilli sauce and ketchup that lend it much flavour. The noodles are firm, springy and not the least bit soggy. In fact, the mee is so good, I think you can just have it alone! That might also explain why the other ingredients are always given in small portions…
…such as the deep-fried wanton. I do really like the wanton, but feel that they are really baby-sized. Bigger wanton would be far more satisfying!
There’s boiled wanton in the tasty soup too. Again, baby-sized, but yummy too.
The best way to eat this dish is to eat it really slowly, savouring the tasty sauce bit by bit. Heck, I’m gonna have it again tomorrow!

Thanks for letting us know! Wouldn’t want anyone to make a wasted trip there. Oh well, at least there are still quite a few other Pontian outlets across the island :)

Unfortunately, this is not Pontian Wanton Mee. It is using the name of Pontian, but if anyone of you been to Pontian and taste the local made you will understand what I meant.
The differences are:
1) No fried wanton, all wanton are soupy
2) No vege but only chopped spring onions
3) The noodle is thinner
I have been eating Pontian Wantan Mee for more than 25 years, and I could straight away tell the difference from pictures. However I do thank them for making the name of Pontian Wanton Mee famous.
If you guys like this wanton mee, you should definitely try out the genuine Pontian Wanton Mee in Pontian. You’ll get addicted!

I m a fan of wanton mee.. Pontian is one of my fav.. Preferred the fried wanton over the boiled ones :) Alway ordered the bigger portion.. Also like the Wanton Mee stall one at Lavender Hawker Centre, “Guo Ji Wanton Mee”. The dry version is serve without black sauce or ketchup, just a ladle of their special “SOUP” will make their noodle taste so super!

This Pntian Wantan mee don’t know from where, for what i know the “Pontian” has a famous Wantan mee that’s sooo nice that you would travel 60km to there. I had never try this one but i can be sure that there’s not much diff from what we had in most wantan mee stall, anyway i’ll never give it a try, cos i’m from Pontian and i grow up eating the ORIGINAL Pontian Wantan Mee!!!

Tried PonTian Wanton Noodle at least a year ago. I would find that the fried Wanton at Sunshine Plaza is better and is the Best in Singapore. Personally, i find their food a little over rated.

I’m a big fan of wanton mee. After checking out the websites for where to eat wanton mee we ran into this site. Great reviews and all the hoopla. Yesterday (Oct.16th, 2010) my girlfriend and I went to their Subang Jaya outlet for dinner. We ordered dry wanton mee, dumpling soup and curry mee. The medium wanton mee came looking like the size of small. But we didn’t bother asking as long it taste good. I don’t know what you guys know about eating wanton mee but this one definitely won’t make a pass for those of us who knows our “wanton mee”. The noodle tasted like its old and factory made … as oppose to “handmade??”. The sauce has no zing. Very bland. With a couple of wilted choy sum, shredded char siew and oil soaked deep fried wantons. The dumpling is very soft and filled with God knows what!! My girlfriend’s curry mee is so greasy that would cause anyone with indigestion to be laid out in bed for a week with a heartburn! It is very santany! Definitely not going to make another trip to this place. The hawker stalls can do better than this!

I tried one of those Pontian WTM outlets in JB because all of my fave shops happened to be closed on that day. It turned out to be a surprisingly good experience. Now I am so enamoured by Pontian style WTM that making a trip to Pontian to taste it at its source is a must for me. Shall make that pilgrimage as soon as possible ;D
