The first time I had a Sizzler meal was at Siam Center in Bangkok. And that was real good – solid a la carte menu items plus its rockin’ salad bar.
On Thursday evening we were at the Sizzler restaurant in Toa Payoh. I didn’t realise there were only two sizzler restaurants in Singapore! This time round I thought the menu was a lot more sparse than the one in Bangkok. I had a tough time finding something I liked. In the end I opted for the teriyaki chicken. When in doubt, always go for the chicken!

I thought chicken sizzling in teriyaki sauce can’t go wrong! The sizzling factor definitely gave it bonus impression points. But as it turned out, the chicken fillets were a tad stiff and dry. They weren’t tender enough and definitely weren’t drenched in delicious teriyaki sauce as I thought they would be!
Their signature all-you-can-eat salad bar didn’t disappoint though. The buffet comes free with all a la carte items and it’s the deepest impression sizzler left me with after I dined there twice in Bangkok. With so many delectable items, even the fussiest eaters can pick something they like.

The cream of mushroom soup is the richest of its kind. Rather filling actually.

A few other salad bar items that I liked were the Hawaiian chicken, chilli prawn, and satay chicken. A pity this time we were in quite a rush. I didn’t get to check out the sundae bar because I was too stuffed by the time I finished all the food on my plates. Until next time then!

I’ve only visited sizzler once, and all I can recall from that particular meal was how great the free flow of soups, salads, fruits and ice-cream was!
The main courses just don’t cut it, which is pretty sad.

Yeah I totally agree. Their salad bar is so good though that they even offer it as a meal – for $15.99!

ARGH!!!!! SIZZLER’S CREAM OF MUSHROOM SOUP ADDED WITH A LOT OF CROUTONS!!!!!!!!!!
That’s my favourite dish whenever I have a chance to go Sizzler for dining. Their Croutons always run out so fast, that’s y i grab lotsa of them and dump it into the soup. Damn niceeee. Their clam soup also very mouth-watering, if my memory didn’t fail me.
Their main dish sucks and damn expensive, guess u might have notice it by then. Is their salad bar that saves the day. And the ice cream machine too!!!! I can eat 6 cups of ice cream, mind u…
I only been to Junction 8 and Orchard one some years ago….wonder if they still around.
ting ah ting, your food recommendation very nice, made me wanna go try everytime i read about them. For example, the manhattan fish market, I give it a try in JUSCO, JB..the garlic rice damn nice but the service sucks ( when it comes to service attitude in malaysia, what can u expect? )
Keep up the good work that u are doing to your blog. Purple leaves a very smooth feeling in my mind now. Thanks. Don’t forget to put up your movie reviews also, I got keep track of which are the good movies and share with my friends when they wanna catch a movie, mind u.
P.S. can u tell me what are those things on top of the croutons? is it chopped peanuts?

Thanks for the long comment neo!
The cream of mushroom soup is very creamy and rich and delicious! Those things atop the soup, they are called croutons? Now I learn something new! I can’t remember what’s the stuff that came with the croutons. It wasn’t chopped peanuts I’m pretty sure. But I just can’t remember what exactly it was!
Such a pity I didn’t get to eat as much as I wanted from the salad bar! Next time I would try out the sundae bar for sure.
Seems like nobody has any good thing to say about their main courses! Yeah they are pretty pricey and not exactly worth the buck. They must have included the cost of the salad bar buffet into the prices!
From the website, it seems there are only two restaurants left – one at Toa Payoh (the one I went to) and the other at Suntec City Mall. Quite a surprise considering their business seemed pretty good when I was there on Thursday evening!
I love writing about food and posting yummy pictures as well, so I’m really glad my recommendations are useful to you. As far as movies go, I have seen a couple lately but am too lazy to write reviews about them! So probably just food reviews for now.

hi ting, u don’t have to write reviews of the movie. I like the old days whereby u rate the movie with popcorn. OH!!!!! sorrie….remember…shouldn’t be called movie reviews…SHOULD BE CALLED movie rating =__________=”. Hope u get it.
At first when i saw the cream of mushroom soup pictures, the bread thing attracted me but I don’t know the name *blushed* so I still a search in yahoo with name like “bread on soup” and “fried bread on soup”..kekeke..I learn something new, thanks to u….Wu La La….
Some years ago, I ordered some chicken thigh dish from Sizzler cause my mom said anything that goes with chicken thigh can’t be wrong but the dish I ordered SUCKS!!! now I know my mom’s words can’t be trusted.
Never mind about that mysterious NUTS (grrrh, wanna go find out soon!!!) as long as it goes well with the soup.
Don’t cock up with the ice cream machine cause it’s not so user friendly, mind u. (oi, watch your weight, alright?)
I kinda disappointed when I found out SIZZLER only left with 2 branches. Their business always very good. Or is it due to poor management that led to the fold-up of the other branches, only they will know.

SIZZLER is a sad place..
there used to be a outlet in wisma, where we celebrate our world cup winning years ago.
then on the final match, all the winning money goes to drain T_T
but dun worry!!!! world cup is coming again! ROARRR

Wow can’t believe you’re listening to Aguilera’s first album! I’m like, a closet fan of hers. That first album is really pristine, clean, raw and utterly beautiful. Even less well-known tunes like Love For All Seasons are so melodious. I don’t exactly dig Christina when she goes all badass and piercings like KISS invaded her makeup studio.
Alicia Keys – princess of r&b! After fallin’ (pun fully intended =)) for her when she debuted, she has only matured so much more effortlessly and elegantly. Queen of r&b is still mjb, though. Her performance at the AMI finals with Elliott of ‘One’ was mind-blowing!
Don’t know why I’m still not willing to listen to James Blunt. Maybe he’s overhyped already. Not his fault.
Ok, I digress. Haha

I tend to listen to my favourite albums over and over again, no matter how old they are, or how many other newer albums I have in my iPod.
My most favourite song off Christina’s debut album is Blessed (I have it on the flash jukebox previously!). Having said that, I do like all the songs in that album. Genie in a Bottle was a tad overplayed back then, but I really like the beginning before Christina starts singing. I think I have it as a ringtone on my mobile!
I think both of these female singers (Christina Aguilera and Alicia Keys) are really talented and beautiful. They collaborated on a song, titled Impossible, on Christina’s Stripped album. An absolute fave of mine, and definitely going into the jukebox next!
James Blunt is heightening in popularity these days. Even when i was in Bali, You’re Beautiful could be heard playing pretty often (overplayed! but still a beautiful song). His entire album is great. I haven’t enjoyed a whole album in a very long time, and that’s why I have it on my jukebox (dunno if it’s working fine). You should give him a try!

so sad that sizzler at Bishan Junction 8 had closed down…i used to work there during the early 90s and the bzness was so good…i was incharge of the salad bar and i believe some of the management team still remembers me…i learnt a lot while working there under the guidance of Mr Simon, Mr Ben and many more…i hope to meet Mr Simon again as he is one of the best superior during my time there…the environment there is so much fun and we really work as a team…i hope i can work at sizzler again during my free time and contribute to the company and relive the good old days…all the best….
