Every Mid-Autumn Festival, I look forward to two things. One is the sight of children carrying lanterns and lighting candles at night. That innocent scene always brings back fond childhood memories.
The other is the Raffles Hotel mooncakes. More specifically, the legendary snow-skin mooncakes with champagne truffle and ganache. It’s a big hit with the fans.
The online orders for 2009 are already open. Have you ordered yours yet? Take note of the early bird, credit card and bulk order discounts!
This year, the mooncakes are packaged in a gorgeous lilac-coloured box. I love it! The box colour changes yearly and has become quite the collector’s item! However this is the first time they are reusing the same box from the previous year’s.
S$52 for a box of 8

That’s the aforementioned champagne truffle and ganache mooncake. Read my detailed review on why this delectable nosh is the best-seller year after year.
A new addition to the 2009 menu is the snow-skin apricot mooncake with popping candy. It’s an innovative creation with pieces of crackling candy tucked within the truffle.
The Mid-Autumn Festival falls on October 3 this year. Get yours fast!

I thought I was the only one who is eating mooncakes during the lunar 7th month…. Now I am overwhelmed with so many choices but I have limited space in my stomach…
I am a fan of Champagne truffle but now I don’t know should I stick to Szechuan Court, Li Bai or Raffles Hotel…

Oh looks like all these places offer champagne truffle mooncakes? Aside from the truffle is the paste filling similar too?

Maybe they want to allow their fans ample time to order. I hear these mooncakes get sold out very quickly every year.

The mooncake is to die for indeed! I bought one box after reading your review last year. Very very nice. I think there’s one more hotel that also sells the same thing. Dunno who started it first.

You must be referring to Szechuan Court at Fairmont. Theirs, I think, are cheaper this year. I’m not sure if they taste better though. Anyone knows who star

Thanks to your post, I managed to get these mooncakes at 20% off (Citibank). Unfortunately I was meant to bring them to BKK but forgot, and last night was the fifth night (you’re supposed to eat them within 5 days) already..!
Anyway, I did try one and it still tastes great, with the soft snowskin covering being a first for me. Good thing I moved it from fridge to fridge..

Morning,
Are the pics taken by you or provided by the hotel ?
They sure make the cakes look n “taste” yum yum…
Usually, I will wait for free mooncakes gifts from other companies in the office before i try and then order my favourites…….(don’t really into trying bits n pieces from the shops as i can’t tell from the little tiny portion given….)
but now I don’t think I can wait….. Had ordered a few boxes of diff varieties….may end up eating egg yoke n snow skin mooncakes for bkfast, lunch, dinner, supper, snacks

Good to hear from you again, XWings! :D
Boy, you sure sound like you’re having many sinful mooncake-licious meals ahead! Agree with you that tasting just the tiny samples isn’t enough to get a good representation of the overall mooncake. Personally I still prefer to buy the mooncakes that we have tried and tested in past years from merchants like Raffles Hotel and Tung Lok.
Oh I am flattered by your comments, too. Unless specified otherwise, I took all the pictures myself at home! Yay :)

Afternoon Veron,
Hmmm…in that case, I must add what camera are you using that day

Or maybe its just the mooncakes…..they are good to look at, super nice to eat and easy to take pics of ?

Gotta admit: those mooncakes do look photogenic :) I used my old Konica Minolta DiMaGE X50 for these pictures. That’s a camera I’m currently looking to sell at a low price. Let me know if you know anyone that might be interested.
These days it’s my trusty Canon that I can’t do without :)

Veron,
Not really into photography but don’t mind having one camera which may one day becomes a collector’s item. (any discount for this statement ?)
:p
PM me the price ? Thanks

hi, i’ve been seeing ppl in forums highly recommending this mooncake flavour from raffles hotel. but i was just thinking, will one find it “sian” to eat 8 pieces of the same flavour? wouldnt it be better if there’s varieties in a box? honestly, i am not one who loves to eat mooncakes. i dont hate it though. well, i need to get some as gifts this year. hence, was googling about it. hope you dont mind.

These are pretty sweet. Personally I think I won’t be able to finish all 8 pieces even on separate sittings. Why don’t you share them with many people?

Most people share their mooncakes with the entire family anyway so I doubt anyone would feel “sian”; more likely there won’t be enough to go around! :)

Raffles hotel mooncakes are still great. I have been collecting their boxes for years. However, this year is the first time Raffles Hotel uses back last year packaging. Quite disappointing. Are they saving cost or environment?

Maybe they have many boxes left over from the previous year? If so, it’s a good thing that these are being reused. Like you said, it helps save the environment. Beats letting those beautiful boxes go to waste. But I can definitely understand the disappointment of fans who collect the boxes. Out of curiosity, do you use those boxes to store things?
