M Hotel, part of the Millennium Hotels & Resorts group, is located in the thriving central business district of Singapore. Visiting businessmen can easily finish all their dealings in the daytime and unwind in the evenings at the hotel bar and restaurants, as well as the nearby attractions.
Getting here from the Singapore Changi Airport is a 20-minute drive via the ECP and AYE flyovers when traffic is light. For commuting, the Tanjong Pagar MRT Station is located about 200 metres away. When the craving to sightsee hits, there is the Chinatown cultural district and the Tanjong Pagar conservation district within walking distance.
This business hotel is understandably busy on weekdays, and sees less of a crowd on weekends. We take advantage of that fact and check in on a Saturday, with our 2-month-old baby in tow. If you are staying here, we recommend booking a Club room to enjoy the use of the M Club Lounge, which offers perks like all-day refreshments and daily evening canapés.

Here’s the full list of M Club privileges:
- Private check-in and check-out at M Club Lounge
- Welcome drink upon check-in
- Daily complimentary laundry/pressing (two pieces, non-accumulative, excludes dry cleaning)
- Complimentary local telephone calls
- International buffet breakfast at M Club Lounge
- All day refreshments including selection of tea, coffee and homemade cookies
- Daily evening canapés from 6pm to 8pm
- One hour complimentary usage of meeting room in M Club Lounge with tea and coffee
- Late check-out till 3pm (subject to availability)
Our Club room is located on the 28th floor where the M Club Lounge is (boy, did we spend a lot of time there – you’ll soon see why).
The rooms are equipped for comfort, with a subdued colour scheme, a 27-inch LCD TV with movie and cable channels, MP3 docking station, a work desk with powerpoints, inviting seating and sleeping areas. You get free unlimited wi-fi connectivity in your room as well as the lounge. As for the view, our window overlooks the busy port.
To welcome guests, the staff put together a plate of fruits, a box of chocolates and a handwritten personal note.
I find myself enjoying the chocolates; they’re gold-dusted and taste delicious!
As for baby Ethan, the hotel had placed a cot in our room in advance, with clean sheets and covers.
Baby Ethan, clothing by Le Petit Society
This is Ethan’s first hotel staycation. He settles in pretty quickly as you can see, and looks plenty comfortable in our bed. A special shout-out to Le Petit Society for sending him these beautiful baby clothing all the way from Hong Kong!
The bathroom is installed with a separate shower cubicle and a bath tub. (This is where I really start making use of the spectacular panorama feature of the iPhone. If you are reviewing hotels, this feature really comes in handy.)
M Club Lounge
For guests staying in the Club rooms, they can relax in the spacious M Club Lounge that is filled with comfy armchairs, LCD TVs, magazines and newspapers. A meeting room that seats up to 10 is available for use.
You can hang out here all day and help yourself to the coffee machine, beers and Schweppes soft drinks.
For your little ones, they can have snacks like chocolate-chip cookies, potato chips (those are yummy!) and M&Ms.
Just posing… Baby Ethan only drinks breast milk at this age!
Daily Evening Canapés
For me, the highlight for Club guests is easily the daily evening canapés at the M Club Lounge, wines and beers included.
This all-you-can-eat mini buffet boasts bite-sized desserts and snacks that both look and taste wonderful. Lord knows how much time I spent here taking pretty food pictures and posting them on our Instagram and Twitter.
The colourful chocolate-dipped macarons are a delight. You simply can’t stop at just one!
Those miniature chocolate tarts, generously coated in chocolate powder, are pure ecstasy! Chocolate lovers will love them.
The savoury bites include cheese-baked mussels, wasabi-mayo sushi, whole prawns and quiche Lorraine.
By comparison, the international buffet breakfast the next day is a more subdued affair. With that said, you should also leave room for the impressive buffet spreads at the hotel’s two main restaurants – Café 2000 and The Buffet.
Waterfloor
The Waterfloor opens out to the Haach spa, fitness centre and outdoor pool.
The fitness centre opens 24 hours, so all you gym rats can work out here even in the wee hours. Both Nautilus-style and free weights are present, allowing guests a certain flexibility with their weight training programme.
Both fitness centre and swimming pool were unoccupied when we went there on Sunday afternoon. And if you’re similarly lucky, you’ll find the swimming experience to be quite peaceable, a cool dip here or a warm dip in the jacuzzi with no cares in sight.
As is common in the travel industry, we were provided with complimentary accommodation for the purpose of reviewing the service. While it has not influenced this review, Sparklette Magazine believes in full disclosure of all potential conflicts of interest. What is your idea of a memorable hotel staycation?
