Whenever friends ask me for hotel buffet recommendations, the few places that I would always mention include Cafebiz at Traders Hotel and Straits Café at Rendezvous Grand Hotel.
Ever since stumbling upon the Rendezvous buffet dinner quite by chance a few years ago, I have returned at least twice every year to feast on the goodies.
While the buffet is international style with both Western and Asian dishes tossed in the mix, what I love most is the seafood. If I could use one word to sum up the dinner buffet, it would be quite simply “crayfish” – loads and loads of it!
Over here, the staff always refill the trays once the food runs out. You can be sure to get a bellyful of the shellfish each time!
Of course, apart from that you can also indulge in other seafood such as baby octopus, crab legs and scallops. These go especially well with the Thai sweet chilli sauce provided, among other dips.
Look, the canapé is topped with a slice of bak kwa (sweet barbecued pork)! These days, bak kwa sure is showing up in many unconventional dishes, including mooncakes!
Spot a running theme here? Yes, the crayfish is omnipresent on every dinner plate. That is my single most favourite item in the buffet spread.
As for desserts, a few durian specialties are offered. The blended durian purée is melt-in-your-mouth goodness. If you love durian mochi, you would absolutely enjoy this!
Then there’s also the hotel’s well known durian fudge cake that is filled with layers of soft durian pulp, minus the durian stench. Yum!
Perhaps what is lacking in this buffet is a nice chocolate fountain and more ice cream flavours.
Love the colourful picks!

Is it just me? Or did the map just mapped itself wrongly?
I have always walk by there and didn’t have the courage to walk in for the food. The place looks wonderful.
Hm.. Maybe I should try this next time…

Oh gosh, you’re right! Map corrected. Can’t believe I missed that lol!
When I was still schooling, I must have walked by the restaurant dozens of times. Sometimes I would see people in there having a nice buffet breakfast, looking warm and cosy in there on a cold and grey morning. It makes me wanna go in there, too, but never did because it looked expensive. Finally we had dinner there one Christmas and never looked back since!

The buffet spread is super dazzling! How does this compare with Traders Hotel’s?

In my opinion, both buffets offer great quality of food. The buffet at Traders Hotel costs slightly more, but gives you a much more comprehensive spread with more dishes, cuisines, a chocolate fountain and also lobster!

Traders hotel i just went last mth, it was a total disappoiintment, the alaska crab was like totally soak in salt water and 1 leg of it, i spit it out. Mayb its that i am unlucky to get that kind of serving. Its not just me, the table beside both side of me, the table in front of me, all their alaska crab was untouch after 1 to 2 leg.
It was feedback to the management and i am not sure if it was reflected back to the chef.
Anyhow, rendezvous quality is also inconsistent, so i guess it depend on how lucky are you. Had a buffet dinner at cafe vic at Carlton, it was good that time. It was near christmas time and they serve turkey as well. That meal was one of the better buffet i had.
Next going to try is four seasons hotel lunch buffet

One hotel I would like to recommend is INDULDGE AT PARK at GRAND PARK HOTEL CITY HALL (located near cityhall, opposite the excelsior hotel)
The quality and variety of the buffet is good and nice. The desserts are decorated beautifully too. Priced at $34++ , it is an exceptional good deal whenever there is a credit card promo e.g OCBC’s buy 2 get 1 free !

+1 for INDULDGE AT PARK at GRAND PARK HOTEL CITY HALL
Spread i wouldnt say its ALOT ALOT, but overall, its still quite a wide spread of variety and the quality is one of the best among other buffets that i had.
Oyster is really fresh!! A must have if you like oyster!!
