If you are in the Bukit Merah vicinity and you happen to be craving for a warm plate of Hainanese chicken rice, head over to Sin Heng Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice at ABC Brickworks Market & Food Centre. This friendly family-run stall sells some of the cheapest and yummiest chicken rice around!
S$2.50 a plate / S$6 for 2-person portion of chicken with rice (above)
Rating:
I am not exaggerating when I say that the Hainanese chicken rice here is one of the best. How many times have you eaten shoddily prepared chicken rice that comes with measly portions of dry chicken meat and plain white rice instead of chicken rice? Over here, you are assured of a sumptuous meal of chicken rice with a warm bowl of soup to wash down the yumminess. Oh and did I mention the fresh tomato and cucumber too?
My family and I LOVE this chicken rice stall because of its generous serving. The first time we came here, we were surprised by the huge portion of chicken breast meat we got for just S$6. There was enough food for four people! Back then I had attributed the huge portion to the fact that the stall was perhaps closing for the day and had a lot of leftover chicken. But in our many subsequent visits, the portions simply grew bigger and bigger!
Moreover, it’s not just about having quantity. Sin Heng Kee certainly doesn’t compromise on the quality of the food. The rice is fragrant, savoury and non-oily while the skinless chicken meat is silky smooth and delightfully tender too. The chilli sauce and dark soy sauce are perfect with the chicken too! If I had my wish I would eat it everyday!
I simply cannot find any fault with Sin Heng Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice. Finding cheap chicken rice that is delicious at the same time is quite hard these days. If you happen to drop by ABC Market, this nondescript stall is definitely worth checking out for a quick, no-fuss meal.

Thanks for the recommendation. I’m always on a look to for new chicken rice places. Looks like it’s boneless too. Fantastic! Having to separate the meat from the bone fragments kills the momentum. :p
You might want to check out the Boneless Hainanese Chicken rice stall at the Golden Mile Hawker Centre (opposite Golden Mile), at basement floor on the far left from the stairs. The lady who serves the food goes around yelling, “Siew ah! Siew ah!” whenever she walks around with a steaming bowl of soup. One of the best chicken rice I’ve ever eaten!

Wow Pari thanks for recommendation too! You can be sure I would try out that chicken rice stall at Golden Mile the next time I’m in the vicinity. I’m sure that loud lady would be hard to miss! Haha…
Looks like you have an appetite for boneless Hainanese chicken rice! Have you been to ABC Market? It’s right at my place and has been undergoing a revamp since August last year. It is about to be ready and when it finally opens (should be around end August or September), our famous Boneless Hainanese Chicken Rice stall would be back in business! You should check it out!

Well if you’re based in Singapore, it’s time to get out of those fancy restaurants. Hawker centres have the cheapest and best food around!

Thanks for recommendation. I am in that area quite often. Surprisingly, 1 of the best chicken rice stall I know is in an unknown industrial eating house in Tuas.
Have you tried Ipoh Ngar Choy chicken. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, just go to Flickr and do a search.

Ipoh Ngar Choy chicken? Sounds interesting! I have to go try that some day!
There are quite a few great eating places in this area. When ABC Market reopens in the next couple of months, you should come check it out. All the old stalls would be back!

hello Rein,i juz patronised SIN HENG KEE hainanese chicken rice stall at 2pm. Found it was very unusual as there was NO queue, Usually there would be Q even though not official makan hours! But i was very happy n hasten my steps. About to place my order when i didnt see my FAV chicken rice Auntie standing there to take my order. Neither is Fav chicken rice Uncle and his crew-cut worker there. Really really hesitate to order cos i dont see familiar faces at all, There are few men inside and i wonder where have my fav uncle & auntie gone? Finally i ordered as i was real hungry! Curiosity can really killed me! I asked ” Where is the boss?” The boss is no longer here. Then he said there is a change in stall owner. I was in deep shock! How come? I quickly scanned the place. The signboard remains there. But the Big white plate (divided in 3 portions) are gone. Gosh, i was so upset! Immediately i came back n flipped the yellowpages, hoping to find the contact tel. Not register! Finally i did the internet search. And hey, i found this blog! Uncle & Auntie are your parents!? WOW! Your Ma n Pa should remember me as they always call me “ah mai” – as I am a Hainanese too! I have been patronising them since 5 yrs ago, From ABC hawker centre to Hoy Fatt. Pls send my regards to them and update us the NEW location. Oh, i cant wait to eat my favorite hainanese chicken rice soon :) thank you.

We had lunch there the other day and I said hi to your parents. They still serve customers with a smile! Noticed that the $6 plate of chicken now comes with extra vegetable salad and mushrooms, although the chicken portion is actually smaller now.

Hi Ah Mai
I am also one of their daughters and wanna thank you for your comments. To be honest, when you describe them as your fav uncle and auntie, I was amused.. cos they are quite flexible in their social skills. While helping out at times, I saw my dad would sometimes sing opera to those very old ppl in their dialects and amused them too. Certainly makes their day.
My parents commented the place is more windy (maybe it is because it is on a hill slope) but less accessible to customers. I heard there is a lift from behind ABC Wet Market which deports up the hill. Think it will reach block 35 and the new stall is 2 blocks away. So far, I always drive, so I am not sure. Do you live or work nearby?
And. .. lastly to Veron, thank you for this blog.. It certainly delights my parents as I heard from them actually.

Hello Carol, nice to hear from you :) Well I am thankful that your parents are still selling around this area. To be frank, after Rein blogged on the address, i went right after work, instead of going the next day :P So you can guess how the chicken rice craving is in me! Ah Gor ( i address your papa in hainanese) and Auntie were very surprised to see me that night. They asked me how i came to know the new location. I told them your son did publicity for you in the internet. They were quite surprised and asked me how he did it? Hahha, well i hope Rein has told them about it. And now i know Rein nickname too!
This time i kia-su, I even got Auntie handphone no. just in case… :P She said her daughter told her to change mobile operator so can have free incoming, but Auntie insisted retaining no. in case her regular customers can’t find her. Wow wow, very networking right? 佩服!
I haven’t walk there yet, cos my bro drove me there few times. Yes, i agree it is more windy there and also less noisy. And most importantly, ah gor chicken rice conquer most of the customers. I didnt even notice whether there are other stalls selling food or not.
I hope Uncle and Auntie business will thrive at the new place. Not too sure the regular customers know their new place or not, cos i saw the previous place seems to have your signboard. This might be misleading :(
Finally I think Auntie looks very bright and cheerful nowadays! Probably she got new helper to help her out. I believe you know that your parents always have a long Q of customers during lunch hours. Previously i saw a guy and gal helping them out at Hoy Fatt. Auntie said it’s her children…hmmm, i told her your children very tall n fair uh…she smiled sweetly to me…hehhe, parents pride and joy! It’s a blessing…and my pleasure to know them too!
Take good care & hope to meet you there one of these days!
Ah Mai ;)

Hi Ah Mai
I told my parents last week and they were smiling away. Yes 28 Hoy Fatt Road uses the same stall but only regular customers will know it is different management. I also did help out and I am the fat one. All my siblings are slim. Usually I will drop by a couple of times to help out in the day.
Oh my mummy has rested well when they were moving over to the new stall. Also, it is less crowded (better time management) and I personally feel the design of the stall is easier for the workflow cooperation.. I know some old and regular customers still take the lift and walk up. My parents are very touched. With all these as motivation factor, my parents will try at their best too! :)

Yesterday when i walked to Hoy Fatt there, I saw the signboard is still used by them.
But chicken rice uncle and auntie stall can be found at Blk 28 – Wan Hao Delicacies Coffee Shop, along Jalan Bukit Merah. There are 2 vegetarian food stall besides the coffee shop too.

Thank you everyone for the support you’ve been giving my parents. They sure are delighted to know. :)
I’m also 1 of their children, Carolyn and Rein sister.
Yes, the other stall still uses the same name and signboard. My parents just started operations 5 days ago and I hope you all will continue to give your support and patronize their stall. Thank you.

The meat portions have reduced quite substantially compared to the amounts given previously. Rice portions still plentiful though.
Thus, I would not really classified this as cheap for people looking for generous meat amounts.
